Floyd does draw in a lot of money, but he keeps it all for himself and when you do that people don't want to work with you. This is why THE FIGHT is trying to be made because Floyd's drawing power has gone down a lot since he days of 1 million PPV's. Yeah, he's had more than 2 million buys twice now, but he also hasn't hit a million in 3 out of the last 4.
HBO is owned by Time Warner, not NBCUniversal, so there goes that point.

Even with that, according to the rumored deal, Haymon would be PAYING for the 24 dates, with 4 of the dates being on NBC and the rest on NBC Sports, to the tune of $25m. It's a show-and-prove deal, similar to the deal that the UFC and ****e TV initially had for TUF.

If it's successful (not sure if the dates were supposed to be over 1 or 2 years), NBC and Haymon sit down, and negotiate a longterm content deal [8-12 dates on NBC, 30-40 dates on NBC Sports (per year) for ~$2m per show].

If it's not, NBC got some to pay them $25m to air 20 shows on NBC Sports, a network without much content on its own.

      • I won't be surprised if TBE moves to another network.
There's Fox and NBC. I'd be glad to see that.

          • Stop it Bob! Floyd will make an easy 100 million for his next two fight without Pac and Floyd can pick the slowest WW available and I see Jr. fighting Garcia next. There is no way on earth, Floyd will fight Pacman, they can all ask Floyd's son.

You think the casino pays a site fee and then says "Oh, by the way keep the money from everyone who comes in our casino."? You mentioned marketing... that's something you get money from, you pay for all those commercials and it's not cheap. My wife works in marketing that **** is not cheap... a 30 second spot on an NBA game (depending teams) is 500k-1million. It's now about 5 million for the Super Bowl... putting up those billboards, buses, the sign on the MGM everything costs a pretty penny and you have to pay people and that's well known tho come out of Floyds pocket.

That's what Floyd does best, is the marketing and the reason his fee is so high. He does all the marketing of himself and his fights. It saves Showtime money but it costs Floyd money, as for the sponsors... Floyd doesn't have any. Golden Boy was doing all the sponsoring, not Floyd. They had deals with Golden Boy promotions, not Floyd Mayweather. These are all things Haymon... well not Haymon because he's an advisor, but whoever promotes Floyd has to do.

Anyway, it's obvious Showtime is losing money or not even that but as I stated these are some wealthy people we're talking about. They don't deal with losses, break evens or even small profits, these people want to see double on their investment to make it worth it, at least 50%. You added in extra PPV money from nowhere, then talk about international fee's etc... but that isn't Floyd who does that, it's Showtime and for all we know could very well be part of Floyds $32 million. The contract could very well say $32 million including international sales and a piece of PPV after a million. The fact is we don't know, but what we do know is based off US numbers it doesn't add up. Showtime didn't make this deal and say "Eh, Floyd's an American let's see how well his buys were in Russia, China and Australia bought the fought before passing judgement. No one ever talked about that **** when Floyd fought Canelo, Oscar and Cotto.
Floyd doesn't take a site fee from the MGM Grand; don't have the link on hand, but Richard Schaeffer (in breaking down the finances heading into the Mayweather-Alvarez fight) talked of Mayweather/GBP renting the MGM Grand, covering all the logistical costs of putting on the event at the, and selling the tickets themselves.

The MGM Grand definitely helps promote and market the fight in Vegas, and Showtime and the various distributors/sponsors definitely help with advertisment and promotions.

Still, the fact that you missed the first point, and continue to be openly wrong on public information, makes your opinion faulty.

-Floyd Mayweather fights on Showtime PPV.
-promotional material for Floyd Mayweather's PPVs (All Access) are aired on Showtime.

-the possible opponents for Floyd Mayweather Jr (top fighters 140-154, most of which who fight under the GBP/Haymon banner) fight on Showtime.

-Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, a budding star in his own right, was being built up on Mayweather's Showtime PPV undercards and on Showtime.

If you watch boxing and buy Mayweather PPV events, the move to Showtime almost demanded that you picked up Showtime. didn't think I needed to explain that.

                    • If the whole world wants to see this fight materialize but Mayweather...wow, just wow. This shows how low this sport has gone and really wanted the sport to take back what s the sport of pugilism is about.

The business part of any sport is inevitable but dang! It shouldn't be the main reason for all of these! It should be first and foremost THE SPORT OF BOXING AND PUGILISM then business comes next.

I would hope that there would be a greater sport body or organization like the NFL, NBA, MLB and the control back to the sport.
