First time I watched a boxing match? I was 11.
About ten years of casual fandom followed, and then in 2006 the boxing bug bit me really hard. So I would say I have been watching/following boxing for about 8 years.

Btw I have no problem with the "I have been watching boxing for x years" talk. I don't want to deny old folks the pleasure of thinking they are smarter and more knowledgeable than "kids these days". I will probably be like that when I'm old, too.

This, "I've watched boxing for 30 years" stuff means nothing. Skip Bayless has been watching that long and he is a moron. The reality is a 10 year old kid can spend 3 months on youtube and watch more boxings matches than the most avid watcher here.

So stop demeaning other peoples opinions you asshats
well, it takes time to understand a sport like boxing. so if people keep writing "Oh you must have just started watching boxing" that's a probable indicator that your knowledge is limited.

like the fact that you claim adrien broner is one of your favorite fighters yet you cant spell his name correctly. that you only consider pro boxers and trainers an authority is another, as if there aren't people in the amateur ranks who know what they are doing. little over a year ago you wouldn't have taken lomachenko as an authority for example simply because he was an amateur, despite the fact that he was already on of the best fighters on the planet amateur or pro.

the fact that you have watched boxing for eight years doesn't necessarily matter, like you wrote yourself the "I've watched boxing for X years" stuff doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. not having watched boxing for long does mean something, like i said it takes time to comprehend this game. so much so that you can watch for a long time and still not get it.

it depends on how you watch it. if you are simply a fan of random violence and watch is as if it were pro wrestling or rock em' sock em' robots your knowledge will remain limited. if you take the effort to study the sport in an effort to truly understand what is going on in the ring, eventually you will. if you are just gawking at punches being landed and not taking the time to question why that particular punch did land for instance, from a defensive and offensive point of view. you will remain clueless.

either way, if you want adults to take you seriously on any subject perhaps refrain from using terms like "asshats". i realize i might come across as condescending writing this, but that doesn't make it less true.

Ok, take into account that fact that Adrien is spelled Adrian where I'm from and you'll see it was nothing but a ****** mistake.

I really didn't feel the need to mention the higher echelon of amateur boxing. , mostly because it's obvious . There are a lot of things that an Amateur boxer won't understand about Pro boxing but of course they have vast knowledge.

My point in saying I've watched for 8 years was to give an "idea" of my knowledge.

How you could look at the list of my favourite fighters and even think I like senseless violence is insane.

And for that Adult nonsense, with all the grace and respect in the world go **** yourself. What's an Adult? An 18 year old? A 21 year old? Someone physically mature? Someone emotionally mature? Because I've known 17-18 year old men and 35-40 year old boys. There is no special moment when one becomes an adult, the same point with the kid and youtube, somewhere there is a 10 year old super genius who's intellect and emotionally maturity is far beyond yours. Think about that the next time you feel empowered as an "Adult" you Asshat

i think the first fight i watched live was tyson vs clifford etienne back in 03. my uncle ordered the fight and woke me up to watch it, it was garbage he took a dive, tyson punch didnt even land.

i remember for hype of tyson lewis fight, it was massive, especially because im in uk everyone was talking about it. i got into boxing properly around 07, watched calzaghe vs lacy, oscar vs floyd, carl froch vs jean pascal and obviously this was a time when amir khan was also coming up, his fights were televised for free here.

I been watching boxing since the 1980's. First time I watched boxing I fell in love with it, I still love boxing, no matter what's going on in my life it's the one thing that makes sense to me. After all the talk its just two men and a ref in the ring. We live through that, through the ring walk and when the bell rings. It elevates us as people and its only something that die hard boxing fans understand.
