It's a way of signalling to GBP that he considers himself the A-side and GBP will not be allowed to dictate terms. I wouldn't be surprised if the split was between 60-40 and 55-45 in favor of Cotto when all is said and done. I also expect that the fight will be signed and announced as early as next week if Pac looses on Saturday. If Pac wins and the Mayweather-Pac negotiation rumors persist, I expect the announcement would be delayed. This would be a good indicator though because if HBO truly believed the Mayweather-Pac fight was happening they wouldn't pick up Cotto-Canelo.
you made some very good points, i saw somewhere that arum wanted floyd-pac on september... of course he wants to take advantage of both mega fights...

The point the guy was making is that Cotto made more then canelo in his last fight and he did. And in boxing guarantees usually indicate the standing of a boxer, the higher the guarantee the higher a network views that fighters drawing power and stardom. For instance Mayweather gets a higher guarantee then Pac, Pac gets a higher guarantee then Cotto, Cotto gets a higher guarantee then Canelo, Canelo gets a higher guarantee the Chavez Jr, so on and so forth.

Basically De La Hoya made it sound as if they were prepared to give to the majority of Cotto's demands
Canelo already said on ESPN deportes Radio he'll give into Cotto's every demand, except Date and no NYC.

He did three times before, am not surprise if he'll do that again.
