Comments Thread For: Klitschko Praises Pulev: It Was Tough, He Prepared Well

World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko knocked out Bulgarian challenger Kubrat Pulev with a fierce left hook in the fifth round on Saturday to retain his IBF title and end his opponent's unbeaten record.

The 38-year-old Klitschko, who also holds the WBO, IBO and WBA titles, knocked down the 33-year-old twice in the opening round as Pulev initially struggled to keep his taller opponent at a distance. The Bulgarian, who had won his previous 20 fights, was again floored in the third round when he was sent sprawling by a thundering left hook.

I was disappointed with Pulev, and he was whining at the post fight ring side interview. He clearly didn't work too much on his defense. Still a good KO for Vlad, better opponents are coming.

he was tough. only took 44 clinches to secure victory. not as many as povetkin who must be really tough.

If Wlad reduces his clinching then he would be more watchable or viewable to the eye. He is a bigger man than most of his opponents and excessive clinching when there is no need for it (40-50% of the time) is not a gameplan.

but we know what happens when wlad doesn't clinch. he hit the canvas over a dozen times. its sad that this is the only way he can win. where's a competent ref when you need um.

Meanwhile, Butterbean (76-10 50KOs) lost by KO2 to a 41 year old (1-1 1KO) fighter (both opponents in their debut fights) last year. Bet the guy had zero amateur fights as well. So basically he lost to a guy off the streets.

So now you think the guy who beat Butterbean should fight Wlad yeah? Before or after Shannon briggs?

Getting back to reality. Pulev didn't fight with his usual patience. He was either too hyped by the occasion or too keen to re-establish himself after those first round knock-downs.

Either way, he still has a heck of a chin, and I didn't think Wlad would be able to drop him with single punches like that. I think that was Wlad's best performance ever. When he gets all his weight behind his punches, Wlad is one of the hardest hitters in heavyweight history.

I don't care who Wlad fights actually...long as I don't have to see it or hear about it every time I read through boxing news.
