Matthew Macklin, 32, will look to start his latest charge at the world middleweight title with a win over Argentine's Jorge Sebastian Heiland in Dublin on Saturday, and he believes that a good performance against Heiland will put him in pole position for a fight with WBC champion Miguel Cotto.

The three-time world title challenger believes, as one of the leading names in the division, he will be well and truly back into title contention for a meeting with Cotto.

Thinking about it, it's not as impossible as it seems at first glance.

If Cotto beats Canelo (or the fight doesn't happen for some reason), there's a chance he might fight Mackin. Macklin is a relatively well known, credible yet beatable MW contender. Cotto won't ever fight GGG, and unless Floyd decides to move up for a rematch, I don't see any more likely candidates than Macklin (there's a bunch that are just as likely though).

Just to put things into a ****** perspective thanks to the WBC, Cotto is the WBC middleweight champ, GGG is the interim champ, Murray is the Silver champ and Macklin is fighting to be the mandatory to Cotto... wtf!

Macklin's starting to sound a little delusional like Peter Quillin. WBC already stated that Cotto will be granted one exception and then have to face Golovkin. That one exception will be Alvarez, not Mack.

Typical Macklin. Hes so deluded. He's similar to froch he thinks hes the dogs bullocks.. Cotto is the third or fourth recognizable name in the sport. He dont even kno who macklin is.
