    November 13, 2014 (Bleacher Report):

Not including himself, six of the nine fighters on ESPN's top 10 ranking for the welterweight division are unavailable to Manny Pacquiao because of the politics surrounding the sport of boxing today.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., Keith Thurman, Marcos Maidana, Shawn Porter, Devon Alexander and Robert Guerrero are all signed with Al Haymon who Pacquiao's people—Top Rank and HBO—refuse to work with at the current time.

Two other names on the top 10 list are Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, a pair that Pacquiao has fought a combined six times. Besides Kell Brook, there isn't a single compelling matchup available to Pacquiao in the welterweight division.

Some of you might be thinking that a move back down to junior welterweight might make matchmaking a little easier, but many of the top guys in that division like Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Lucas Matthysse and Lamont Peterson are also signed with Haymon, which makes all of those matchups dead on arrival as well.

Pacquiao is already a lock for the Hall of Fame in my view and I'm sure in the view of most others, so he doesn't have much if anything left to prove. But it is a shame that years of his career are being wasted on fighting the likes of Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri.

You do know that this fight isn't being held at WW though. Its at a catchweight off 144lbs. On top of that, Algieri is and will be the bigger man in the ring.

The fight is for the WW title. Yes I know it's at a CW, but what else is new? Algeri might be the bigger man in the ring, but he fought at the Jr. WW ranks for a reason...he lacks power. There's way more money and competition at WW, so if Algeri's people thought he could compete at WW, he would have been there before this fight. Algeri has been chosen to be a sacrificial lamb for Manny. I wish him luck, because we are both New Yorkers, but I can't see him winning more than 3 rounds against Pacquiao.

yes because a fighter is suppose to stay in his division until he retires and he's not suppose move up or anything LOL.

Nothing wrong with a fighter moving up or down, especially for a bigger fight, i.e. Mayweather vs. Canelo, Cotto vs. Martinez, etc. However, Pacquiao moving down to face Algeri is just not the same. Like the article pointed out, Manny just doesn't have many options without Haymon fighters. He can't fight the best of the best. I wish he would've become a free agent like Floyd and Cotto did, but he didn't, so it is what it is. Algeri is probably the best he could do at this point, but it's a damn shame, no matter how you look at it. For Manny's sake, I hope Mikey Garcia and Crawford meet him at 140 or 144, hopefully in 2015.

Read the article (bleacherreport) and its a damn shame..Pacman is a global icon and globally hes bigger than Floyd and if he woulda capitalized on his name he honestly shud be making more money than floyd, its strange that he doesnt call his own shots at this point in his career, instead hes in a binding contract at the mercy of Bob Arum...pac shud be in nothing but megafight after megafight

Algieri is bigger than Pac and Pac is only a "welterweight" for money, he's tiny. Get with the program.

Manny is the only fighter in the history of the sport to get accused of picking on smaller fighters who are actually BIGGER/HEAVIER than him!

That's why we have "weight classes" and not "power classes"
