  • Comments Thread For: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Eyes Froch, Dirrell, Fonfara Bouts

Former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) is expecting big things in 2015, after signing a contract with influential manager Al Haymon. Chavez and Haymon are discussing his options for the new year.

Chavez reveals that Haymon is planning to make a fight for him in late January to mid-February. The Mexican boxer is looking at a title shot, with WBA/IBF champion Carl Froch and WBC champion Anthony Dirrell as his targets. Chavez wants to become the first Mexican fighter to win a super middleweight title. The third option, is a potential fight at 175-pounds with Andrzej Fonfara, who is also signed to Haymon.

Haymon is paying Chavez a lot of money, and Chavez is not that good, so putting him in with a real top fighter anytime soon is a big gamble. Maybe an easy opponent followed by Dirrell in Texas, where a roided up Jr can last the distance and get a belt with the help of some bought judges. Then as many easy defences as possible until he can't make the limit anymore.

Maybe I'm just being cynical though. TBH I'm still wondering if all we'll seeing is Jr sat on the shelf for another 12 months while Haymon and Arum have their lawyers go back and forth.

Stevenson, Quillin and Chavez Jr. have so much faith in Al "Mighty" Haymon.
