There are millions of boxing people and some will say GGG is not that good. If a boxing fan has eyes and a brain and watches GGG destroy top contender after top contender for 17 straight KOs and become the highest rated and most feared middleweight in the world then they should know he is that great.
Golovkin - Not so great.

Couldn't agree more. GGG makes quick work of these guys and people throw them in with the Ishida's and Rosado's. But Macklin beat Sturm and was competitive with prime Martinez, and Geale was a former unified champ.LOL. He's actually currently the youngest MW champ.
Funny thing is 18 months or 2 years ago, guys like Murray and Macklin were considered strong and relatively competitive challengers and Geale was a unified champ
In fact in late 2012/ early 2013 MW was actually considered a relatively strong division - and certainly not a weak one.
Problem is Martinez has gone from unbeatable to shot and GGGs steamrolled many of the contenders.
These two would be considered good wins for anyone else. But GGG is the main target of smartass contrarians these days.Comment

you make good points except for the fact he isn't beating top contender after top contender. There are millions of boxing people and some will say GGG is not that good. Beating Sturm doesn't mean shi.t
Washed up shot to hell Javier Castillejo kocked Sturm cold.
He would have landed on his face of the ref wasn't there to catch him.Last edited by Chris Bauermeis; 11-14-2014, 11:01 AM.Comment

Of course. Sadly, there's a limited outlook which states that if it's not an American on top of the division, it's not legit. And funny enough GGG has the second best resume at 160 after Sergio Martinez. That may mean the division sucks but hell, I see some tendencies:
- 168 was considered **** when Calzaghe was ruling it
- 168 was considered great divison when Ward was ruling it.
- 160 was considered great in Pavlik times and is **** in GGG times.
If Golokvin's record had a KOs over Peter Quillin, Danny Jacobs, Sergio Mora he'd get a lot more credit from some people because they only believe in their own guys (even if they aren't ish to begin with).
They're only giving Kovalev respect now because he beat one of theirs when the rest of the world could see he was legit a year ago.
Geale #2, Rubio #5, Macklin #6, Murray #6
The other three are Martinez, Quillin and Cotto, all of whom avoided him.
On the age thing, Golovkin's a pretty young 32, he looks like a schoolboy and hasn't shown any signs of wear and tear. Moreover, as we all know, power is the last to go.Comment

The ultimate proof of that is the cruiserweight division. Full of good, exciting fighters like Huck, Hernandez, Afolabi, Arslan, Wlodarczyk, Drozd, Chakhiev and more, yet some say it's the one of the weakest divisions solely because most of the competition takes place in Europe.Of course. Sadly, there's a limited outlook which states that if it's not an American on top of the division, it's not legit.
