  • Prime Tyson vs Prime Frazier

Tyson would be in a world of trouble here. Mike wouldn't be facing an intimidated opponent in Smoke, and he couldn't bank on pre FOTC Frazier getting off to a slow start. Jimmy Ellis did well for two and a half rounds by staying the hell away from Joe, hardly Tyson's style.

If Mike did manage to hurt Joe, Smoke wouldn't stop coming, wouldn't stop getting up if Tyson did manage to floor him for an instant. For every right uppercut Mike attempted, Joe would produce three economically devastating hooks to Mike's head and body. Tyson's overhand right would simply go sailing over Joe's bobbing head. No matter how good Mike's head movement was, that wouldn't prevent Joe from nailing him downstairs. Joe would also be a lot more relaxed than Mike. It helped Tyson that Spinks was tense. Joe wouldn't be wrapped so tight.

Quarry started fast against Joe, in their title fight following the Zyglewicz massacre, pouring in nearly a hundred punches in that opening round, and Jerry could hit. Over 50 of Jerry's hooks went downstairs. But Joe returned fire, with over 60 of his own shots in that opening frame. After just two rounds, Jerry was already tiring. With Ziggy, Joe would take a little step back, and let fly with that hook.

Tyson didn't have the awesome shoving strength of a Foreman, and we're not talking about a post FOTC Frazier here. Frazier could very definitely get out of the opening rounds against Mike, then watch out! Unlike Joe, once Tyson went down, he wouldn't be able to beat the count.

    Frazier KO 13 Tyson

    AAAhahahahah

    AAAAhahaha

    A sick joke!

Just as described on the Fantasy thread, Joe doesn't stand any chance at all.

Whenever Tyson was faced with an opponent as weak as Frazier, he finished them spectacularly within the first round.

I give Joe about 30 seconds, without failure,

Joe didn't have the power to hurt the hard chinned Tyson at all.
Nor the speed or the skills to catch the master defensive Tyson,
Or evade the Tyson onslaught, on the contrary, Joe CAME STRAIGHT FORWARD into danger. He could not even avoid the plastering of a slow and uncoordinated Foreman who did nothing more than wing clubbing shots left and right until Joe fell over!

Tyson has immense concussive power in every shot which just one flush would be necessary to crack open the chinny Joe, he would KO Joe even with a body shot.

Joe never even fought an opponent as strong+athletc+skilled+fast as Tyson.
Tyson wasted every opponent Joe's calibre he fought within a round or 2.

Some of the OTNB like to claim that "If Frazier can survive [insert number] rounds then he'll take over and wear Tyson down.

What a crock! Tyson went the full trip with certain boxers before, he never gassed until late in his career, who only survived via having hard chins and holding on for grim death, none of which are within Joe's capabilities. As if Joe would hear the bell at the end of the 1st anyway.

Tyson KO 30secs Frazier, perhaps with the first punch landed. Invariable outcome. No pucnhers chance whatsoever.

Absolute insult to Tyson to compare unfavourably with this calibre of opponent!

Tyson's only losses were to giant boxers, and to one somewhat smaller one which was excellently skilled all round, had among the hardest of chins and was roided the gills!

    Next please!

        That's where I am.

The 88 Tyson was focused, accurate, fast -- and next to impossible to hit clean. He simply moved too well -- like a lightweight -- and threw insanely tasty combinations.

Frazier is my favorite fighter of all time, but I think Mike is just wrong for him. Frazier was too brave for his own good, and when hurt wouldn't stop coming forward (watch both Foreman fights), which would help Tyson get a finish at some point in the fight. Frazier wouldn't have any real advantages against Tyson (apart from heart maybe), he is slower, has less power, and while they are about the same size Tyson is stronger. Tyson would just be too quick and ferocious for Frazier.

Fight sells out MSG 20 minutes before it's announced, is about the only prediction you can make here besides it wouldn't go the distance.

frazier has an underated defence at his best his bobbing and weaving non stop motion made him very awkward to hit ali said he was the hardest thing to hit in there first fight, his non stop motion as being like a heavy weight henry Armstrong he must have been a nightmare to fight , foreman stlye wise just had his number but I believe Tyson would have issues with a shorter frazier , joe would outgut him and win late in the fight.

Tyson was a better-in-every-way version of Frazier. Many times more athletic, much faster, tighter technique, just better....

Ali didn't punch to the body, whereas Tyson would have made full use of pocket time with Frazier. Short fight.

If Tyson doesn't get Frazier out of there in the first half of the fight, he's got a problem.
