After the high rating the Hopkins fight got, HBO might reluctantly buy that fight to grow the Kovalev bandwagon.Comment

Well I sure got fooled when he got out of the Kovalev negotiations and didn't bother for the hopkins negotiations. Guess there are bigger fights at 175 thoughComment

He could put in an appeal, WBC actually have a rule for this, if the mandatory challenger is a significant money maker, the split would be revised.
Pascal was ranting on twitter one day and he quoted the rule.
I think he's just using Kovalev as leverage since nobody is going to pay Stevenson what he wants if he keeps fighting crap opposition and Stevenson actually needs a decent fightComment

My understanding was that a new IBF champion will have at least 4 months to defend against a voluntary opponent.Originally posted by Freedom2014Looks like it won't happen next.
The IBF has ordered Kovalev-Mohammedi negotiations to begin, and there will be a purse bid if there's no agreement within 90 days.
The only way to avoid this less interesting fight is to fight Stevenson, but Adonis is a ducker who only wants soft opponents.
When Porter became champion, Brook was supposed to get the shot but they let him defend against Malignaggi.
Similarly Jermain Taylor has 4 months before he has to defend against the next IBF mandatory (N'Dam?).
Is Kovalev really being forced into negotations without being allowed a voluntary period? that sucks.Last edited by Weebler I; 11-12-2014, 03:59 AM.Comment

It is a tough one isn't it? On one end you can meet a compatriot and set yet another record for the biggest fight in Canadian boxing history against Stevenson OR try to win 3 titles all at once.
I'd say stick to Stevenson, because winning that gets Pascal Lineal plus WBC and be part of history as the biggest fight in Canada. Also it further improves his negotiation position when they go for Kovalev.Comment
