He's just talking crap. Kessler wasn't a top rated smw? Well...who should have been rated higher than him?

No.. no. He WAS a top SMW!

Reread all of my posts ITT. Kessler was a top SMW. That's my point, It was a weak era and the top guys were the top guys because they fought each other. But many of them (froch, kessler) weren't very good (IMO)

Just take a look at their skillsets. I've yet to see a post with somebody breaking them down and showing how they're elite- skill wise. Kesslers only win is Carl Froch and that's what made him "great." The top SMWs became highly rated by fighting each other. As fighters... many of those guys were over rated

You said Kessler was "overrated." Explain how then. If you agree he was a top SMW, how was he overrated? Did someone call him a top pound for pounder or something?

Battling: I never said Kessler wasn't a top SMW. He was.

          that's not what I'm saying.

But Kessler indeed being a top 3 SMW is what my point is...... The division wasn't very good. I feel Kessler and Froch are/were products of a bad division.

Watching Froch is a firm reminder to me that those who criticize the Jack Dempseys of yester-year (a far, far greater fighter than Froch) as being unskilled brawlers and think they wouldn't compete in this era need to think again.
Excellent post. Green K to you.

              I already responded to that:

What I'm saying is that's why all these wins by these guys are so "great." Cause they were against top fighters. But no one ever thought about what these fighters did well and if they were actually special fighters.

They all fought each other and made it to the top of the division- but Kessler, for example has no notable wins besides Carl Froch.

He's not a special fighter. The guys I'm talking about aren't special fighters and were fortunate to be in a terrible divison.

That is what I am saying.

What I'm saying is HE is overrated BECAUSE of his resume. Because his division was weak and while he did indeed beat the top fighters of his division.... how good were they? Minus Bute, Pascal and Dirrell..... how good are Abraham, Kessler, etc, anyway? (Kessler's only notable win is Froch, which is part of my point)

He gets overrated because he beat the best, but the best wasn't really that good, IMO, and then when you actually look at him from a talent perspective... How good is he really? Ring IQ-Stamina-Chin are his best "skills"
So if he has a great resume then why is it overrated? You've acknowledged yourself that its great.
Kessler also beat Andrade when he was on top of his game & destroyed Beyer.
Froch many wins over many other good fighters; Groves has a very good win over DeGale and can bounce back. Dirrells a very good fighter and will no doubt be a world champion someday in the near future.
                Those are attributes not ''skills''
Froch is a top fighter, unquestionably one of the best of this era

Yeah.... Ring IQ-Stamina-Chin- and REACH being someones best attributes or "skills" just show how weak the division was and how terribly overrated Froch is and was.

                    • Haters will force create reasons to bash Froch, but when you are realistic about his track record, you can't deny that he's got nothing to prove in regards to his willingness to take on the best...win, lose or draw.

his detractors will say "well he lost to Ward!"

Well his supporters aren't just focusing on who he beat, but who he's fought.

I have respect for the guy as a Boxer...don't know him as a person, but as a Boxer, he has my respect
