Comments Thread For: Duva: I’ll Talk to Someone in Montreal about Kovalev

Sergey Kovalev now has three world titles at light heavyweight after his unification win over Bernard Hopkins on Saturday night. And he has two options in terms of Montreal-based opponents — Adonis Stevenson, the lineal champion who opted not to face Kovalev in 2014, or former champion Jean Pascal.

Stevenson-Pascal and Kovalev-Mohammedi in the first half of 2015. Winners in the second half.

Mohammedi's last opponent Walker had a 7-7 & 1 record as he entered the ring. I could be wrong, but I doubt that Kovalev or his team want anything to do with a fighter whose previous opponent sported a .500 record.

My bad, I don't spend every second of every day posting on Boxing Scene.

Mohammedi is the IBF mandatory, unless Kovalev unifies with Stevenson next, he has to fight Mohammedi if he intends on keeping his IBF title.

He meant the idea of Stevenson and Kovalev in separate bouts to promote their eventual and mythical fight against each other.

Remember Stevenson-Bellew and Kovalev-Silakh? Oh then it was supposed to be Stevenson-Forfarna and Kovalev-Agnew.

How many tune-ups does Stevenson need?

Oh, I though he meant I was repeating something he already posted. My bad.

175 is great at the moment. We need Kovalev-Stevenson next year, one way or the other.

Is 175 really that great? I think its good for the short run. The 'big names' are still Hopkins, Kovalev, Stevenson, and Pascal. I can't think of any contenders at 175. You got a handful of names, two handfuls at best.
