Chavez Jr thinks that the contract was up September 2014, while Top Rank thinks it's up October 2015; either way, Chavez Jr is still only 28 years of age, with 50 pro fights to his name and near no amateur boxing career wear on his body.

Even if he has to wait till October 2015, he'd only be 29 years of age, free from promotional obligations, with a name that immediately puts him into the top 5 of marketable fighters at super middleweight.

Unless Jr and his camp determine that the time is of deep worth to him, Top Rank has made the last money that they'll ever make off of Chavez Jr, unless they start to use the "Chavez" name to try and then sell Gilberto Ramirez as something special.
Great news for the sport. Why fight at all?

Arum has the power on his last fight , pay him 200k and put him in there with Gilberto Ramirez with drug testing for the fight

It didn't. He woulda got as much to fight GGG without an extension as he got for fighting Maravilla (which was IMO a bigger fight - specially given Jrs loss and the Vera debacle). It's just he woulda got a lot more to stay with Arum for a an extra fight.

I'm no fan of Arum, but why would he give Jr an OTT payday for one fight when the rumours were already around that Jr was about to jump ship?

Good for Chavez Jr.! I hope Mikey Garcia is next! Fighters keep signing with Haymon, and keep suing Arum. There are some who think this is a coincidence, but truth is, Arum is a snake! He was trained by Don King...'NUFF SAID!

This much is true. Ultimately it's down to Jr (or hopefully more to those around him) to decide what's best for him and his career.

If they've sat down and crunched the numbers and figured this is the best way to maximise his career earnings in the long term that's, of course, what they should do.

I don't much care for Jr anymore (specially following the Vera farce) but nonetheless hope it all works out for him. Will be interesting to see if they try to buy the contract out (and how much Arum thinks it's worth or if they just sit the contract out - though there may be a financial penalty if he doesn't take the fight he owes).

Personally, despite his name value I'm somewhat sceptical of Jrs overall worth - a few poor performances and his unreliability would make me very wary of him as a long term investment, but I guess that's Haymons problem now.

Yeah he doesn't have to. And Jr doesn't have to do anything either. None of them gain by this case being in court. But for Arum it's quite precarious. A dwindling star in Pacquiao with few options for revitalizing that star power and an unappealing stable of fighters behind him.

That's crazy. Never heard that before. If so then I don't see how anyone can back Top Rank.
