I think it's safe to say, Mayweather has probably the best defence in boxing history

Whitaker didn't have a good defense.

He got hit a lot by Riveria x2, Hurtado, Bojorquez, Pestryaev, got dropped by Roger Mayweather.

Also got hit a few times by Buddy Mcgirt, Paez, Pendleton.

How can he have a good defense?

James Toney, lost in Prize Fighter, dominated by Lucas Browne, hit a lot by Ruiz, Peter x2, Jirov, Rahamn, Tiberi, Thazdi, Griffin, Williams, Johnson, Sosa, Nunn.

He had a terrible defense actually.

Who else? Basically everyone has a terrible defense come to think of it.

People (including himself) calling Floyd TBE is just ignorant in my eyes...but best defensive fighter? He might have a claim there. Anyone who says he's not one of the best to ever do it defensively is just being a hater. I don't know that I'd have him #1 on my list but I think top 3 sounds right.

For an orthodox fighter he is way up on that list. If you include lefties the competition is a bit stiffer but it is quite a bit different so I separate righties and lefties on lists like this.

Willie Pep had a very poor defense.

Sony Leon, Calvin Woodland, Tibs, Bassey, Tom Collins, Cadilli, McCallister all couldn't miss him.

                    Saddler stopped him 3 times.

Not Rigo's fault everyone is too scared to fight him knowing they'll lose so avoid him like the plague.... He can't pander to the English speaking American audience with an obnoxious marketing campaign based on money and greed... Rigo's defense is just tighter, doesn't get hit as much, maybe it's because he's lefty and this makes things more difficult for his opponents, but his overall composure and balance is just a notch above, he moves flawlessly in the ring
