Other than Marciano all the ATG fighters I know have losses on their records.
If you fight over a 15 year period and amass over 65 bouts against quality opposition you will loose a few. You can't be on top of your game 100% of the time during a bout. Boxing is performed by humans not robots, even though technique is an essential for long term success occasionally power will take over and eliminate skill!
All intelligent people learn from their failures and work hard not to fall prey to the same circumstances again.
If Joe Louis, Willie Pep, Sugar Ray, Dempsey, Ali, Holmes, Holyfield, Johnson and so many more excellent competitors can loose it shows the vulnerability
of man in the world of sport. A loss is only one fragment of a whole body of work.
It's the body of work that has the most meaning not a small segment of failure that we're judged by.

what? hagler had to claw his way back after those losses early in his career. he overcame them eventually but they hurt his career plenty. hagler had boxing politics against him his entire career and for a long time those losses were the ammunition people needed to hold him back, they were some of the most damaging losses in history to a fighters career.
hopkins too, after losing in his debut nobody wanted to invest in him and he had to fight his way to a title shot the hard way. he did get a quick second title shot after losing to jones since roy moved up so quickly, but once he became champion people held that loss over his head for a long time and were unwilling to give him the respect he deserved.
pacquiaos first loss seemingly didnt hamper him a whole lot, but his second loss to singsurat did. he would have got a title shot at super bantam much quicker had he just vacated and moved up rather than lost his title on the scale and then got ktfo.Comment

He's not at the same level as the majority of guys mentioned skill-wise, but Rosado's career seems to be doing just fine considering how many losses he's taken. Fights with a lot of heart and people, including me, love to see that even if it ends with him taking a L.Comment

No loss is ideal but in the grand scheme of things the examples i mentioned didn't hinder the fighters careers.what? hagler had to claw his way back after those losses early in his career. he overcame them eventually but they hurt his career plenty. hagler had boxing politics against him his entire career and for a long time those losses were the ammunition people needed to hold him back, they were some of the most damaging losses in history to a fighters career.

Hagler learnt from those losses and avenged both of them and was champ for 7 years straight. No one is going to downplay Hagler's career for losing to those guys, it was a minor setback for a major comeback.
Same with Hopkins, he said himself the debut loss helped him realise he needed to live and breathe boxing. I'll stress again, sure it's not ideal to lose especially on your debut but it all turned out well, undisputed champ, 25 defences at middleweight and still going strong at 49... no one is going to downplay Hopkin's career for losing his debut or to Roy Jones who was just on another level and it was still early on in both of their careers.
Pacquiao will be remembered for his climb up the classes, great trilogy with Morales, rivalry with Marquez etc... he lost to Torrecampo when he was some malnurished teenager, don't see anyone bringing that up when talking about his great career.Comment
