Nobody knew about Chad getting KO'd by Edison Miranda in sparring before the fight either. It was pick em for some, others knew Chad dropping 7lbs of muscle to fight in a weight class he hadn't been in for 6 and half years was going to be a handicap against him.

It appears to be a family business - his brother or son in law (I'll call up the ref in a second) recently announced 2 dates (late Nov and Early Dec AFAIR) kinda in his honour. It seems to be that it'll remain in the family though obviously things could change if they find that running a boxing promotion (never an enterprise for the sqeamish) isn't what they thought.

      Ah.. that's the one...

Brown is Dan Goosens brother-in-law per the article.

Have those rumors ever actually been confirmed? seems like people just taking advantage of the situation to make it believable.

Anyway, Dawson was bigger than Ward on the night. He rehydrated a lot so couldn't have been drained to the extent of Oscar vs Pac.

His family and investors remain in control.

"I got knocked down. But it was a flash knockdown. I wasn't hurt. I got back up right away and finished the rest of the sparring session. Stuff like that happens all the time in boxing."

Ok so he got flash knockdowned, so did Leonard when sparring for his fight vs Hagler. Like he said, these things happen in boxing.

Here is what he said leading up to the fight and not in hindsight of the loss:

I’ll make the weight, no problem,” Dawson said. “I’m still eating. I told everyone I could make 168. I wasn’t saying it to sell a fight, I was saying it because I can do it. We have talked about moving to 168 for the last few years. When I finally had the opportunity to do it, I did it.”

“The only difference is that I’m not able to eat what I want,” Dawson said. “Before, I would eat steak, mashed potatoes, burgers. Now I’m on a good nutrition plan. I’m eating vegetables, fish, and chicken. I feel a lot faster, a lot stronger.

Miranda's trainer Miguel Diaz reported Chad went down, tried to get back up and went down again. That's not a flash knock down. Evidently they let the cobwebs clear and finished the next round. Chad & John's accounts of the incident were pretty pc. Don't hear many guys say they were hurt bad.

At the end of the article John talks about Chad having to lose 9lbs the last two days, meaning he was pretty much on weight for LHW, not SMW. John talked about how it weakend Chad as well. The results speak for themselves. Chad hadn't been dropped in 5 years and that was a flash knock down by Adamek. Meanwhile Ward couldn't even drop Allen Green in their fight, the last time Ward scored a knock down was Shelby Pudwill.

My take is Chad was desperate for a big fight. He just beat Bernard Hopkins who beat Pascall and Dawson had no other big fights to take at LHW. He thought he could drop the 7lbs and fight like his normal self, he was wrong. During negotiations, Chad tried to have the fight moved to a 170lb catch weight, Ward refused.

GGG's trainer aught to keep Ward's name out his mouth when they clearly aren't moving up. He's looking to fight Cotto or Canelo or a Floyd fight that won't ever happen.

Goosen took Ward's slave contract with him to the grave. It's doubtful we will be hearing anything about Andre for years outside of speculatory matchmaking.
