Comments Thread For: Joe Calzaghe: Hopkins in a Dangerous, Difficult Fight

Hall of Famer Joe Calzaghe won a twelve round split decision over Bernard Hopkins in April of 2008. After the fight, most observers thought Hopkins was finished. Fast forward to more than six years later - Calzaghe is long retired and Hopkins (55-6-2, 32KOs) is still going strong at 49-years-old.

Next Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Hopkins will stake his WBA/IBF light heavyweight titles again undefeated WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23KOs) in a unification.

Wow, can't believe it's been a whole six and a half years since Hopkins got introduced to the sweet science by Joe. He's really come a long way since that comprehensive loss.

If big Joe is picking Kovalev then it's set in stone. He controls Bernard's destiny and is his eternal dictator.

Agreed, it's quite amazing. B-Hop probably learned a lot from being in the ring with a guy like Calzaghe though. It's probably prolonged his career.

AKA slick veteran tactics. Face-first brawler Hopkins didn't know what to do, how to adapt.

Since when you win fights by winning just one round clean. Grandpa got his ass schooled by a white boy. He knows his place since then.

Ironic that Calzaghe is talking about dangerous opponents.
