Comments Thread For: Saunders' Trainer: We Are Not Underestimating Eubank

Jimmy Tibbs says that his charge Billy Joe Saunders training at a foreign camp for the big showdown with rival Chris Eubank Jnr brings back memories of Nigel Benn’s epic win over Mauro Galvano.

The legendary East End trainer took British boxing great Benn to a Tenerife training camp for his WBC World Super-Middleweight title challenge against Italian Galvano in 1992, the results showed with Benn pulling off a memorable victory in Rome, stopping Galvano in four rounds.

Tibbs has taken British, Commonwealth and European Middleweight Champion Saunders to the MGM Gym in Marbella and is getting the same good vibes from the camp that he did over twenty years ago with Benn.

    Looking forward to this.

Not entirely sure because neither are too good.

50-50 fight but then we can then witness a one sided beating in this one. Eubank has definitely been schooled well by his fathers mentality. I watch Eubank Snr interview on Boxnation and his attitude about his son makes me think Jr would have to be a success.

Can't wait for this fight.Just hoping Billy Joe does his thing.I trust Tibbs words when he says they're not taking Eubank Jr lightly, that was my big fear for Saunders.

Billy Joe by wide UD. War Saunders

I was worried that Billy Joe was getting carried away with the pre-fight hype and getting too emotionally involved.

The thing about Eubank (Jnr and Snr) is that they like to play the mind games, Eubank Snr made it work with Nigel Benn in the 1990's.

If Billy Joe maintains ring discipline and applies constant pressure without trying to force a stoppage then he should win a UD.

But...should he fight with his heart and not his head I can see Eubank making it a real fight.

Maybe Billy Joe could follow the example set by Steve Collins and reverse the psychology on Eubank!

Get the feeling that BJS might be underestimating Eubank. Anyway, looking forward to this fight more than the headliner.

I dont see how you underestimate people with unbeaten records? Plus BJS doesn't want to retire yet, which he claimed he would if he lost, so many reasons why not to underestimate Eubank.

But Eubanks has got Senior close at hand, you cant buy that kind of pedigree and experience, which I think will really help Junior.

BJS has put his ass on the line saying he can beat this kid easily. He can only dance around for so long, then his pride's gonna kick in and he's goin to engage. I see Eubank Jr taking his head off.

This fight is going to be sensational. Saunders was on the verge of fighting for a World title, but damn this guy just loves to fight and took on Eubank Jr. instead. Saunders will be doing a public service by handing out a spanking to Chris. Easy money for Saunders.

                    I can't pick a winner...

I like Eubank Jr's speed and his variety of punches, think his uppercut and left hook to the body will do work (BJS leans in too much). But Saunders is the better boxer and would beat Eubank Jr at range.

I think Saunders will have the better of it for the majority of the fight but Eubank Jr will land the bigger shots. So it's a question of whether it ends inside the distance or goes all the way. If Saunders has sorted out his stamina, I think he has the better chance of emerging as the victor.
