i have zero doubt toney would beat golovkin in his prime, toney at his best was a beast and his style is all wrong for gennady. he may not turn his lights out (though he might) but he would definitely stop him within the distance imo.

again, possibly the worst match up you can make for GGG at 160lbs stylistically. the only people who gave toney problems in his prime were boxers who gave him lots of movement, guys who came at him got picked apart.

i'm also going to make sure it's brought up, just in case people do not know:

toney's chin carried all the way to freaking HW. he's got one of the best chins of all time.

I'd favor GGG in a MMA fight by submission, GGG has good wrestling skills I believe.

In boxing? James Toney schools him.

Golovkin is my guy but Toney's style was all wrong for him. I'd pick Toney by wide decision. I can't see there being a KO either way.

Golovkin would of put Toney to sleep inside 3 rounds and ended Toney's career before it ever got started.

The only MW in the history of the division who would make for even the slightest competition for GGG is Marvin Haggler. And even then, Haggler gets stopped and destroyed within 7 rounds.

            Crazy stuff around here lately.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

Nobody in the history of the sport has had a combined skill-set as great as Golovkins. Not even current, future ATG's like Floyd/Wlad/Pac.

it is what it is, he can't be denied. if guys actually stepped in the ring with him, he beats them with ease and people will be calling them bums and telling him to fight Ward (who he beats easily. IMO).

Golovkin has unofficial wins (via ducking) against Peter Quillin, Felix Sturm, Martin Murray (who he will finally "officially" beat in February) and more. Those are 3 top 10 fighters at 160. He literally made the whole top 10 run from him and the ones in the top 10 that did fight him (Macklin/Geale) he made them look like journeyman.

based on what we know so far, you have to go with prime toney.......GGG is in his 30's and hasn't fought anyone near the caliber of a toney.
