Comments Thread For: Maidana Might Be Open To Facing Cotto at 154-Pounds

Adviser Sebastian Contursi says former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is open to the possibility of going up to 154-pounds if a big opportunity presents itself. One name they would consider is Miguel Cotto, who holds the WBC title at middleweight but is probably going to return to 154-pounds. Maidana was at one time being considered as a potential opponent for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Maidana is old school. He'd fight anybody within his weight range.

This could get ugly...both guys come to fight.

I'll take Cotto by mid-late KO.

Don't see how anybody reasonably could. Dude fights his heart out every time.

Pretty amazing when you think about it (his meteoric rise). Nobody saw this coming. Two PPV fights with Floyd, and who knows who is next -- but very possible it's another big name. He was just supposed to be a stepping stone for Broner...and yet he's fighting Floyd Mayweather twice while AB is fighting Carlos Molina and Emmanuel Taylor....wow!!

Yeah that's gotta' be a sore subject around the Broner house about now I would imagine. Maybe Broner can learn a lesson. He's still young enough to make the most of his chances.

Finally, while I wish Maidana well, I don't see him beating any of the big money guys. I remain unconvinced of his elite-ness. He'll always make it exciting though.
