Hopkins opponents fight dirty out of frustration, therefore they are too blatant. They do it with too much anger inside them and they just end up having points deducted or being warned. Hopkins fouls are used tactically, away from where the ref can see them. However, I don't see where are these fouls that fans claim. In the past couple of years, Hopkins has fought pretty clean with the exception of clearly accidental clash of heads.

Hopkins is great, but his unification bout with Stevenson was stalled. The man is about to turn 50. You really think he was going to let Haymon and Stevenson play around with his time? He knows it's now or never and he made a very honorable decision to face Kovalev. His days of fighting Murat's and Shumenov's are over. Since the rise of Stevenson and Kovalev and the public's appreciation for both, Hopkins really has no choice. It's **** or get off the pot. A bout with Stevenson was never a guarantee. Just like how Stevenson felt it made more sense for him to fight more top 10 guys before a monster fight, Hopkins presenting that same threat. They could easily put the old man on hold and fight another name and then try to put Hopkins on the undercard to hype up that fight. This could have taken another year or more.Comment

Kovalev wanted this fight a couple of years back and didn't get it. Hopkins waited for Murat to get his visa in order. Hopkins then goes on a rant trying to say Kovalev ducked him for Cleverly when all Kovalev did was stick to his schedule and fight date. (Of course this came at a later date when Kovalev became widely known as the Krusher to boxing fans. At the time of the small window for this fight to happen Kovalev was not a belt holder and Hopkins was more concerned with Cleverly. So was Hopkins ducking Cleverly? I mean he had the belt at the time...anyways his rants rarely make sense.) The call was on Hopkins not Kovalev. Hopkins would like to think he is getting into this guys head but newsflash! he does not understand English very well, let alone sarcasm in English. So what to do? Tell everyone you're an alien...over and over and over and talk about all the been there done that's, but what many forget is that Hopkins has lost three of his last 4 fights that were anywhere near this scale of importance. Kovalev is the future!Last edited by Clint650; 10-26-2014, 07:14 PM.Comment

I'd be more concerned about Hopkins being on PEDs and running around the ring avoiding any type of exchange and making it a one-punch at a time fight and trying to win the fight by default with "ring generalship" aka making it a low-output fight, landing a the "cleaner shots", which usually amount to single digits...Last edited by MisanthropicNY; 10-26-2014, 08:44 PM.Comment
