Has Ward fought anyone as skilled/good as Kovalev/Golovkin?

Okay. Can you respond to this post?
Come on Larry.... or anybody else. Are you guys going to tell me what makes Froch, Kessler, Abraham or Bika special???? (besides them all fighting each other)
Can anybody disprove what I'm saying of them: (aside from Kessler) They're all tough guys with good chins, none of them are good boxers, all of them mindlessly plod forward and they're all slow. None of them has better then above-average power and none of them have the complete skillset that Kovalev and Golovkin possess.
Anybody?Last edited by LouIE G; 10-24-2014, 06:46 PM.Comment

Ward has some very impressive wins to his credit without a doubt. Froch is one hell of a fighter and so is Kessler and he beat both of them by a wide margin. Still I would pick both Kovalev and GGG to beat Ward by KO. Call my crazy but that would be my pick. The fight with GGG could be at 168 but Ward must fight Kovalev at 175 for me to pick Kovalev to win. I don't know how Kovalev would perform at 168.Comment

For the record, I think ggg beats everyone from 154-175
Kovolev
Hopkins
Froch
Bika
Cotto
Murray
Canelo
Floyd
Lara
Everyone would get good boy'd
Except for ward... Ward would **** ggg upComment

I think this thread brings up a great question, "where would Ward be without the Super Six?" Because personally I think without it Ward would have a similar career to GGG, passes the eye test, but not worth the risk/money for top guys to fight him and prove it.
If we had a Super Six MW tournament right now it would be:
Cotto
GGG
Martinez
Quillen
N'Dam
Geale
Personally I believe GGG could run through that with the same impressiveness as Ward and his Super Six. If GGG did this would he also belong in the top 5 p4p?Comment

Excellent thread King, you pose a very good question. GGG and Kova are at the top of their game, not only are they in their prime but they are skilled knockout punching machines.
Ward has done what he was supposed to do and thats nullify his opponents and take away their strengths be it by bear hugging and or billy goat head rushing. He is supremely skilled but relies on tactics a lesser boxer will resort to.
Just think what happens when he gets clipped by one of these destroyers.Comment

I don't think anyone is arguing that Ward's resume isn't light years ahead of Golovkin's, just that someone like Froch or Bika isn't as skillful as GGG himself. Personally I think GGG needs better opposition to prove his skills in the pros. Short of jumping up in weight and at the same time a phenomenal jump in opposition, that is proving difficult ATM.Comment

This question seems to be born from pure sensitivity. You must realize Golovkin and Kovalev's resumes are trash. I agree with you, they are trash.
Has Mayweather fought anyone as good as Pacquiao? Has Pacquiao fought anyone as good as Mayweather?
You can only judge a fighter based on who they have beaten. Andre Ward has beaten Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, and Chad Dawson. Gennady Golovkin has beaten Daniel Geale. Sergey Kovalev has beaten Gabriel Campillo. Go back to arguing about excitement because Ward's body of work puts both of your boys in a bodybag.
One last thing, if Kovalev gets exposed by an American like your last hypejob Provodnikov was, don't be surprised if your feared killer fades permanently into obscurity.Comment
