The best champion in a respective weight class could have any of the belts or none of the belts...
So none of Joe's title defense were legitimate because he held the WBO? 18 illegitimate title defenses speak for itself too!
Scap your hate for Hopkins is really blinding you here.
Calzaghe's WBO title defenses are less legitimate, because they are and have been the weaker sanctioning body for years. They mandate very poor fights, and are what allowed Calzaghe to miss a list of credible contenders in his own division.
His win agaisnt Lacy doesn't not come close to comparing with Trinidad. Tito was wrecking guys, and was atop the pound for pound rankings. Lacy had 21 fights, and didn't throw a jab.
You reallllly like Calzaghe, and that's fine, but hating on Hopkins, asking loaded questions and suggesting Calzaghe's legacy is comparable to Hopkins' at this point is stertching things a lot.Comment

Totally agree with you Bozo. Tito was destroying boxers & no one was saying he wasn't a legitimate Middleweight after he wrecked Joppy. That's what made him the favorite going into the Hopkins fight. He not only dominated Tito but closed the show with a KO. I think that Keith Holmes was better than any fighter on JC's resume.Comment

I agree that their careers are very similar (Scap-view), but that Joe C needs to unify SMW and beat Tarver at LHW (or unify LHW if he prefers).
Thats 2 fights away from HOF in my book, and I hope he gets them. seeing JC fight I can't believe peoplewho think he didn't want to fight Jones, Hopkins, Ottke. He might not be SRR but he loves fighting and seems like he'd have fought anyone earlier in his career. Now he's ****ed off with that after so many disappointments (and **** ups on his part) so wants a few paydays.
oh and the jones-joe points are just ******, bc roy wasnt going to walk into the uk and joe wasnt willing to leave. case closed, they werent going to fight and even if they did, rjj would smoke himComment

Who are the creible opponents that were missed by the WBO-who are you referring too-who did Joe not fight?
I have already said Nard's W over Tito is better than Joe's W over LAcy...you say Lacy doesnt throw a jab...didnt you know this before last Saturday...you monday morning quarterback, quit discrediting Jeff LAcy because he was brutalized and dominated-is Joe's crime that he beat Lacy too badly?
If you want to poke on Jeff Lay's abilities we can poke at Tito too, Nard said all he was going to do was follow Oscar's gameplan...at least Joe was the first top expose Lay where as Bernard openly said he already had the gameplan to beat Tito.
Youve already agreed with me my man-they have comparable records pre-tito and pr-lacy...all my man Joe has to do is put Toney Tarver away and he will have accomlished more then Bernard post Tito.
What W would you hold higher (please play the hypothetical game for a sec) Oscar Delhoya for Nardor if Joe happens to beat Tarver...what victory is more impressive?Comment

You're doing a spin job here, and we both know it.
There is no comparison between Hopkins win over Tito and Joe's win over Lacy. Not even close.
And jumping into the 'if' game about fighters Joe may or may not face isn't very cerdible in this discussion. He doesn't have a major fight in his entire career up to this point, and one win leads to him moving up, and not only fighting but beating better competition?
I'll believe it when I see it.
All we have to discuss now is what's actually happend.
As it stands now, Calzaghe doen't have a HoF worthy career.
Come and talk to me after these other wins happen. I'm tired of hearing about 'ifs'.Last edited by Bozo_no no; 03-10-2006, 04:43 PM.Comment

It is meant as satire Gomez-surely your not a dope and took this literally right?Comment
