Those were not the best fighters at 168 in those years, and he didn't unify any of the major titles at that time.
What is the difference between Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins?

Originally posted by CrumbleI dont think names like Eubank, Woodhall,Reid(prime),Sheika(prime), Veit,Brewer,Mitchell,Lacy signifies a weak resume, you can pick holes in Joe though because names like Tocker Pudwill creep in there but if he wins a title at light heavy retires undefeated you'd look pretty ******ed trying to argue why an undefeated 2 weight world champion is not a HOFmer, so realistically one fight and one win is all Joe needs to conclude his legacy.
I think this post is pretty darn accurate!Comment

It's no fault of Joe's that Roy Jones moved up in weight in 1996 rather than fight Calzaghe, that Steve Collins retired in 1997 rather than fight Calzaghe, and that Hopkins and Ottke (both as bad as eachother) just would not fight him.Comment

Originally posted by CrumbleReid was a genuine threat, and Sheika was as good as he was ever going to be and was probably the best opponent he could have thought at that time. You can bag on him for not fighting Sven Ottke which has got to be what your eluding too, because in the super middles there was no one else, but Joe was satisfied hanging around knocking out Tocker Puddings to be fair,Comment

Trying to deflect the conversation away from Calzahge doesn't change the fact his resume is soft, he didn't come close to cleaning out his weak division, and he didn't unify any titles up until last weekend.Comment

Yawn.
As for Jones, Hopkins and Ottke (and Beyer for that matter, Beyer? lol) - THEY DID NOT WANT TO FIGHT CALZAGHE (and I don't blame them!).Comment

I'm not going to entertain these posts from you anymore.
There's a list of guys Joe didn't fight in his own division, and because you don't think they were meaningfull fights doesn't excuse him for fighting guys a step below them.
This is why he didn't clean out his division, and why he didn't unify titles.
I also have told you several times now that if it was one fight or two, I could buy that it wasn't Joe's fault. When it's a long list, AND Frank Warren was involved, I don't buy it for a second.
168 was weak, and he didn't fight the best of the weak, nor did he unify.
That's why he's not HoF worthy at this point, and why it's silly to compare his legacy to that of Hopkins at this point.Comment
