Comments Thread For: Team Canelo Hope To Begin Fight Talks in November

According to manager Chepo Reynoso, he hopes to begin discussions next month for the ring return of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs). Canelo was going to fight against Joshua Clottey in December, but suffered an ankle injury.

The goal is to fight again in May, hopefully against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs). But Cotto recently stated that Canelo is not his only option when he plans to return.

We know Cotto is a tough negotiator, but I think the background presence of Golovkin will help keep this fight on track. Both guys know that if this fight falls apart on the negotiating table, they'll both (especially Cotto) be getting pressured to fight Golovkin instead.

And this fight will pay cotto a ton of cash and is very winnable. I'd be shocked and disappointed if he didn't take this fight. Maybe he's using his blasé attitude as leverage to get paid more.

If Cotto passes on the fight again, he's truly a moron. Why screw up a massive payday again by fighting a "tune up" fight again and losing? Plus him losing to a middleweight is very likely since he's not even a middleweight. I think it gets done.

De la hoya and alvareds management needs to get it together here. first they ducked clottey with a fake ankle injury. not of being scared but the backlash was tremendous. now its that why we are not fighting in december because we want the important names.avareds management in mexico is garbage.

Cotto can choose to fight Mayweather over Alvarez for Cotto's voluntary defense of the lineal middleweight title, actually – and Cotto is likely to make even more money doing so. Therefore, the scenario that Cotto could be under pressure to have to fold during a possible negotiation with Alvarez – especially for that title – is not entirely likely.

Cotto doesn 't have many good fight options..if he goes GGG or Alvarez, he loses out & then you have mega match vs GGG which Alvarez loses, but the key is what GGG does next...he isn't the type 2 sit on the sidelines & wait...
