If I were Murray, I'd fight Golovkin and pick up the pay cheque. A loss isn't going to harm his career. If anything, I think it might actually secure him better fights... However, he was denied entry to the US on the grounds of a criminal record. So that really fucks his chances up. Would he ever be eligible?Comment

Nah, Murray fought Martinez in Argentina, Sturm in Germany, signed to fight Chavez in Texas and Wood in Australia. He reportedly just got over $1.5m in a 3 fight deal fighting in South Africa and Monaco. Money is one thing that does motivate him but he has had promoters with alternative plans.
Anyhow, this is how his promoter viewed a Golovkin fight back in September:
http://news.boxrec.com/2014/rodney-b...an-plan-murrayThe close relationship Golden Gloves enjoys with Gennady Golovkin has led many to think that a fight between Murray and GGG is a forgone conclusion. Although both sides are, apparently, keen, Berman is quick to point out that this isn't the most likely route to a world title for Murray.
Berman will be heading to the WBC Convention to find out whats happening: I am going specifically for Martin to get some kind of indication of what is happening there with Cotto. My instinct is that he will move back down to Junior Middleweight which will leave Martin in a strong position as the silver champion.
At the time of writing, Murray is ranked number 3 with the IBF, with no-one at number 1 or 2. This would effectively make him the mandatory once reigning champion Sam Soliman defends against Jermain Taylor on the 8th October. The possibility of Murray fighting against either is something which gets the whole team excited - not just because of the prospect of having another world champion but also the position that it could put Murray in for the future.
If Murray was to fight Golovkin, then it puts him in a much stronger position if its a unification fight, said Berman.
Also:
I'm guessing that might change if HBO put the same money up for a fight in Monaco. What of the Murrays well documented Visa problems in the US? Is this still a possible road block in terms of getting the big fights?
Its very unfair. It would be nearly impossible, due to his criminal record, to fight in the US.
At this stage, it doesnt really matter. For big fights, it would be more favourable to have them either in the UK or Monaco. A GGG fight would be an American fight though, and in that situation we would go full steam to get the issue reassessed.Last edited by Weebler I; 10-19-2014, 11:14 AM.Comment

You'd hope that by the end of the year he'd be in with a higher level of opposition but Murray in Monaco in February, for the first of four fights that year, is a pretty good shout.Comment

They say that next fight is in Monte Carlo. Murrey is eligible for that one.If I were Murray, I'd fight Golovkin and pick up the pay cheque. A loss isn't going to harm his career. With all that Ward ****... Comparing Ward's and GGG's situation is unfair. Ward cleaned up superMW devision long time ago and yet he's still there calling guys to come up or come down to him.
GGG is yet to clean his own devision - there are IBF, WBC belts that still need to be grabbed. So it's by far not the same comparing to Ward situation. Hugler spent all his career at MW - why don't we call him ducker?
GGG team state it clearly - they want to clean MW and would move to SMW for a PPV big money fight. Ward with all his hugging abilities is not a PPV. At this very point he's not even an active boxer.Comment

After reading the article, all I want to know is who the **** is Sergio Martin?...Ricky Martin's brother?Comment

I understand Golovkin-Murray will take place in Monaco. I'm on about Murray vs Cotto, Quillin, Taylor, Jacobs, Lemieux etc. Fights that he could probably secure but wouldn't happen 'cause he can't get into the US. He'll be stuck fighting in Europe.Comment

Murray has no leeway, he's practically a nobody right now. GGG literally has a huge fan base and rising star-power, don't be silly. GGG vs Ward is NOT the biggest fight, both in viewers and financially. If you think otherwise you're fooling yourself.Comment
