Robinson was the greatest of all time and that was the division he was best at so most people are going to instantly say Robinson but the truth is we'll never truly know. We never saw Robinson fight someone as fast and athletic as Ray Leonard at welter. The Leonard that beat Benitez, Duran and Hearns at 147 was a special fighter and If anyone could come up with a good game plan it was Leonard.

I think this fight would have been a classic..both were around the same size, both had power and speed and were durable

Leonard was a great welterweight at his best but he lost to Duran and was behind on points when he KOed Hearns. Robinson had a couple of draws when he was a welterweight in non title fights but he never lost when the welterweight title was on the line. Robinson fought one hell of a lot of non title fights sometimes fighting 12 non title fights between title fights. I bet most guys on here didn't know that. I give Robinson the edge because of his two handed punching power which was superior to Leonard's power although Leonard could punch too.

Leonard was a superbly skilled all round boxer in very good condition and was far too modern to have been seriously threatened by an ancient boxer like Ray Robinson.

Robinson was bigger, stronger and harder hitting by far.

Robinson has at least 2 inches on Leonard in height.

Yeah Robinson was longer than LEonard and maybe hit harder, that is probably true.

Leonard was physically stronger than Robinson too because he was far better trained.

Personally though, the natural size and power advantage of Robinson, I dont' think, would be enough to overcome the highly skilled and athletic Leonard though.

Great fight, two of the greatest welterweights of all time.

Both very gifted, fast. Leonard has the edge in speed but I think Robinson edges him in most other areas.

It would be a high skilled war because although both are skilled technicans both loved to stand a fight and both had great chins.

                  I lean on Robinson UD.

Angelo Dundee said of Tommy Hearns: "Give Tommy Ray's balance and he beats them all". Robinson isn't quite as freakishly large as Hearns, and isn't quite as powerful at 147 (although he's still beastly) but his superior balance and ability make up for those. Robinson, by something like 8-6-1, maybe a little wider.
