Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao's Adviser on Board With Move To 140

Adviser Michael Koncz is on board with a move to junior welterweight by WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs), who skipped from 135 to 147 but fought at junior welterweight in 2009 and had a brutal knockout of Ricky Hatton in two rounds.

Pacquiao faces undefeated WBO 140-pound champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) on November 22nd in Macau, China. The title defense is taking place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds and it could be the final fight for the Filipino star at 147.

well if there aren't any fights left at 147 and honestly, if Mayweather is a no show, what's the point?

Yes there's Khan but if all the network issues are true then Pac faces the same problems as he does with Mayweather...Brook isn't a big enough name, Thurman is completely untested and Maidana is a plain slugger who'd get battered.

At 140, there's so many options, Prov, Matthysse (might be issues there with networks again lol). So I say why not, as long as Pac can get there in good enough physical shape and isn't drained.

moving down in weight for older fighters usually doesn't work out too well

but then again, all this means is that he's fighting Mikey Garcia next year

This guy made a junior welterweight who wanted to come up to welterweight fight him at a catchweight... And now he is claiming that he is moving down in weight. If refusing to do a drug test, walking away from negotiations, filing a frivolous defamation lawsuit, lying to the media repeatedly, turning down 40 million, needing 6 months for a cut to heal, having his promoter lie about building a stadium and bringing a fake phone to ESPN as a publicity stunt to say he is waiting on a call from Mayweather (who is the more popular fighter with all of the real leverage and actually had already called him and tried to make a deal) isnt enough to convince you that he is has always used Mayweather's name to promote his fights and never actually wanted to fight him then moving down in weight out of the division should be the straw that broke the camel's back.

I see this as a good move. Lots of potential good matchups at 140 for pacquiao.
