Comments Thread For: Shingo Wake Injured, Scott Quigg Seeks New Foe For 11/22

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom has told BoxingScene that Scott Quigg is still on the hunt for an opponent as Shingo Wake is no longer in the running for a clash with the WBA Super bantamweight titlist due to an ankle injury.

Quigg, 26, will feature on the undercard of Tony Bellew versus Nathan Cleverly on November 22, which takes place at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, but has yet to find out who will be in the other corner.

However, the 26-year-old is a consummate professional, he has been working hard in the gym under trainer Joe Gallagher while waiting on news of an opponent.

Wake, 17-4-2 (10), picked up the injury in training last week, so is now officially out of the equation. Indeed, Hearn recently told BoxingScene that Wake was one of three potential opponents for Quigg’s fifth title defence, so the 29-0-2 (22) Bury-based boxer has options aplenty on the table.

Ironically, Wake’s fellow countryman Hidenori Otake has now become a potential target. [Click Here To Read More]

I hear it's been proposed but Hearn isn't interested, it's a lot of risk with little reward. I think he's trying to navigate Quigg through the safest route possible. With there only being 5 weeks till fight night, I can't see it being a good opponent either.

Matchroom's Eddie Hearn intends to launch WBA World Super bantamweight titlist Scott Quigg’s career into the stratosphere during 2015 with a succession of high-profile bouts that could, if made, end the criticism over Quigg’s recent run of opponents. Quigg, 25, has looked destructive thus far in 2014, scoring stoppage wins over Tshifhiwa Munyai (TKO 2) and Stephane Jamoye (TKO 3), but he still hankers after a domestic dust-up against Carl Frampton, who won the IBF belt by out-pointing Kiko Martinez in Belfast last month.

Galahad is fighting on Dec.6, and Hearn doesn't want to move from the Nov.22 date. At least they seem to be in negotiations for next year.

Would be good if they make the fight on channel 5, get some mainstream exposure of two highly regarded domestic fighters.

Of course it won't happen though.
