Comments Thread For: Walters Eyes KO: Crowd Can't Help Nonito Donaire!

Nicholas Walters (24-0, 20KOs) is a confident fighter, expecting to power past WBA featherweight champion Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21KOs) on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Walters has the WBA's 'regular' version of the title.

They have one mutual opponent in common - Vic Darchinyan. Donaire struggled to put Darchinyan away in the ninth round of last November's rematch. Darchinyan was up on the cards at the time of the stoppage. Walters destroyed Darchinyan in five one sided rounds in May.

He's too open for counters. We will see how he reacts to that check hook. ND has dropped several taller and rangier opponents before though not finishing the job. However this guy definitely seems to look like the strongest opponent.

Walters will be the aggressor he needs to place his punches don't lunge in so Donaire can counter him

I don't think I've ever seen Donaire rocked or even his legs buckle, I think Donaire has a chin, if anything, he will get TKO'ed via cut. I haven't seen Walter's chin yet.

I'm pretty sure Darch rocked him a couple of times in the rematch - once in the early rounds, and again in the late rounds just before the KO.

I think the huge experience difference will show itself and Donaire will time Walters who will come forward making himself a target for counters. If Walter boxes and moves, it will make a less scintillating matchup but give him a better shot at winning a close one. I think Donaire catches up to him at some point. But there are intangibles that are hard to gauge with Walters because of his limited competition. Even his title-winning efforts were against an unknown guy named Daulis so it is hard to tell what he brings at this level.

If Nonito still has his stuff Walters will get KOed. Donaire can also box and has speed.

This fight has a good buzz
