Comments Thread For: Donaire's Trainer Confident Walters Will Get Knocked Off

Five division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (33-2, 21 KO's) has his game-plan down pat as he prepares to unify the WBA featherweight title as the super champion takes on regular champion Nicholas Walters of Jamaica at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Donaire’s father/trainer “Dodong” Donaire told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports “we have a good game-plan which we worked on during twelve rounds of sparring with Guy Robb last Thursday and I’m not worried. I know Nonito will do it” on fight night with the title unification bout to be telecast on the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday over its pre-eminent Channel 2.

Donaire vs Walters is probably the most must-see in the whole event. I think it's close to an even fight. I give the slight edge to Donaire because South Paws with strong left hooks can be tricky and I haven't seen much of Walters other than KOing bum shot Vic.

I just noticed that Ronnie never mentions trainers by name in his titles, its always "Doniare's trainer" or "Pacquaio's trainer". Basically "'s trainer". Why doesn't he refer to the trainers by name in the title?

I am expecting a Walters victory, but I respect Donaire for taking a matchup like this and will give him full credit if he pulls it out. Can you imagine this match-up being made this year if Donaire were a Haymon fighter? Zero chance in hell.

Donaire's trainer is also Donaire's father so I wouldn't expect much objective analysis from him.

You mean taking 30 minute phone calls with Garcia? He might be better off without Garcia.

Robert has Maidana, Mikey, Brandon, and Gradovich to handle on top of other developing fighters.

I want to like Walters and believe he'll win but I just can't see it unless Donaire is completely unmotivated and has lost his desire. Walters looks good but who has he fought? Undersized Vic Darch? Also, Walters has already shown certain flaws that could spell disaster such as being slow handed and very wide with this punches. The more I think about it the more I realize that Walters is tailor made for Nonito. Hope I'm wrong though. Logic tells me that Donaire wins but I'll be rooting for the Jamaican just to see some new talent emerge.
