The hall of fame is not all that difficult to get in. One or two more significant wins and he will be in the hall.Comment

When you look at Calzaghe's sub par resume over the last 8 years or so, you notice that he was at Supper Middleweight the entire time, yet managed to miss encounters Sven Ottke, Eric Lucas, Markus Beyer, Anthony Mundine, Antwun Echols, Mikkel Kessler, & Danny Green.
Up until a few years ago, the WBO belt held as much credibility as the NABF or the IBO title.
He never unified a major title up until now, at 33 years old.
You can try and sugar coat it all you want. Calzaghe is NOT a Hall of Fame fighter right now, and this win over Lacy does not get him a free pass.
He has the potential, and always has, but it's not potential that gets you into the hall of fame. It's accomplishment.
He still has a shot, but he'd need to pick it up as of now and win some credible fights, and or unify some titles.Comment

Ottke and Beyer wouldn't leave Germany, and Calzaghe proved years ago that he is far better than those two anyway (Starie, Brewer and Mitchell all robbed against Ottke - Calzaghe beat up those guys.. Woodhall robbed against Beyer - Calzaghe beat him up.. Catley beat Beyer, Calzaghe KTFO Catley in 1992 ABA final.. etc).
Echols already got brutalised by Brewer, and Calzaghe in turn beat up Brewer.
Lucas? Mundine? Green? Who the hell are they?Comment

Credible contendes at 168 that he didn't fight.
His resume is very weak during that time, and just because you don't think highly of who was available in his division doesn't excuse him from not fighting them and dancing with weaker opposition.
You ask who Lucas Mundine & Green are. The answer is simple. They're a step up from Mario Veit, Tocker Pudwill, Mger Mkrtchian, Kabary Salem etc etc.
He didn't fight a list of credible ranked opponents at 168, didn't unify one major title up until this weekend, and didn't move up to look for a bigger fight.
This is an aside of a point.
It doesn't change the fact he has clearly not done enough up to this point to make the Hall.
If he wants to make it, it all starts here.Comment

Branko Sobot, Will McIntyre, Miguel Angel Jiminez and Tocker Pudwill are probably the worst that Joe has fought out of the 18 defences and they were all late replacements for Thomas Tate (Joe wanted to be the first man to stop Tate since Roy Jones Jr). Mger Mkrtchian beat WBO NABO champ Freeman Barr in an eliminator, Kabary Salem was the number-two contender when Mario Veit said he needed more time to get ready for a Calzaghe rematch.
So you expect Calzaghe to of fought every single week against every last fighter at 168? Give me a break.
What would Calzaghe of gained by beating guys like Lucas, Mundine or Green? Come on dude, lol. All he wanted from 1996 to 2003 was Roy Jones, all he wanted from 2001 to 2004 was Bernard Hopkins and all he wanted in 2004 was Antonio Tarver or Glen Johnson.Comment

There is no way those many match ups, plus dreamed of match ups like Jones, Hopkins, Clinton Woods, Glen Johnson ...
all didn't come off and I'm supposed to buy that everyone was ducking Calzaghe and not vice versa, ESPECIALLY when FRANK WARREN was his Manager.
Doesn't fly.

What I would have 'expected' would be at least one of the major titles (WBC WBA IBF) unifed in those years, and coming at least close to cleaning out the division.
Missing a list of credible contenders and then hearing "It was eveyone's fault but Joe's" doesn't fly with me.

The fact remains there's a list of guys you've mentioned, and some how there's an excuse for each one not happening that's everyone's fault but his.
This brings me right back to the part you've ignored twice now:
This is an aside to the point. He does NOT have a hall of fame resume at this point. Period.
If he wants to make the hall, it's all about what he does from this point on. Not making excuses for what he didn't do earlier.
