Riding with Walters, mathed?
Not sold yet, but if he lays out Donaire I might jump on the bandwagon.
Yeah, he seems to have the right mentality to be successful and he has a good skill set. Some posters have been saying he is slow and like a caveman but Walters puts his punches together very well and has improved in every fight.
If Donaire wins, does it secure him as a sure Hall of Famer? As is, he's already borderline. A win would legitimize his featherweight reign.
He's putting up a strong account. Maybe no immediate, but if the FW tourney comes through I have him losing to Loma....I think he can get in there though
Size difference actually isn't NEAR wot I thought. I was picturing Walters as 5'8'' barefooted, and Donaire 5'6ish... Donaire looks to be every bit of 5'7'' and Walters a smidge under 5'8''. Not sure if one or both are barefooted, but based on the picture, height is irrelevant.
Donaire looks really fit, and broad framed at the weight. Of course Walters is a monster, and must walk around at 150+ - I imagine he'll have about 5-8 pounds on Donaire come fight night. But really it'll be a bit more than that, as Walters is more muscle mass per pound than Donaire. Still, nothing that drastic.
Reach, Walters has about 4-5 inches on him, but that might be deceiving as arm length measured from fist to armpit, there's prolly a negligible difference between the two. But REACH, as in wingspan, DOES matter to, as when you jab, your back width plays a role as you turn into your jabs...
All in all, I don't expect size to play much of a factor here. I think Donaire will be getting his punches off first all night, and use his superior foot speed against the relatively flat-footed Walters, to avoid getting trapped against the ropes. As Donaire has more explosive, fast twitch type power, and Walters has more thudding, clubbing power. I see Donaire winning late TKO, or if Walters has a hard chin, 116-112 on the cards.
