Comments Thread For: Hopkins' Trainer: Bernard is Motivated By The Danger

Naazim Richardson, trainer of IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32KOs), is not surprised his boxer pursued a unification clash with WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23KOs). The fight is scheduled for November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

From Felix Trinidad, to Jermain Taylor, to Kelly Pavlik, to Antonio Tarver, to Jean Pascal in Canada, to Chad Dawson - Hopkins never avoids a fight. Hopkins even entertained the idea of going to cruiserweight to fight James Toney and to heavyweight for a battle with David Haye.

I respect Naazim and I definitely give BHop all the props in the world and I hope he beat Kovalev, but Naz is wrong when he said BHop didn't duck Chad. He ducked Chad for years until he had no other choice but to fight him. Depending on how you look at this, he could also be ducking Ward.

Most fights in boxing are boring these days it's all about the win. Look at Mayweather

He never ducked Ward. As Ward is not a lucrative boxer and also Hopkins is bigger then him.

Obviously neither of you watched the 2 Pascal fights! But No, Hopkins is not always a crowd pleaser. These days it's nice to watch him make history, though. I was begging for him to quit after the Calzaghe fight. He was really so so boring at that point

Nitpicking - why - in every fighters legacy you can call ducks and nit picks - who cares - its petty as ****k, the man is 50 years old, he can be on HGH for all I care, this just shows how good he actually is, the direction the sport is going in, we will never ever see anything like this in any sport, and Boxing is by far the toughest sport out there. He publicly said he would not fight Ward, Ward is all wrong for him and I think in his 30 years in the sport he knows it - so friggin what - How is it a duck with Chad Dawson when he eventually fought him back 2 back ????? like I said petty as ****k - a duck is a duck - its an absolute like Love and Hate - you can't kind of duck someone then fight them back 2 back - if the fight never happened, but it did.

As good as he is, B-Hop was taken to task by a mediocre Chad Dawson twice.
                    Kovolev is a different animal.
He's savvy, patient and will hurt Bernard with each power shot landed.

If Hopkins escapes taking a nap in November, that would be a victory unto itself.
