He didn't want ODLH his cash cow to lose to a youngster

at 130 when Mayweather was all humble but was elusive and knocking people no one wanted to fight him

After he beat Corrales, Larry Merchant said to his face Naseem Hamed wouldn't want to step in the ring with him after a performance like that

Back in 2002 Mayweather said he was gonna prove he is the best fighter from 154 down and he has.
I agree with all of that except for "he doesn't need to"

When your the face of boxing like Floyd is and how oscar, Tyson, Holyfield, Leonard, Ali, etc.. You take all the big fights
    Oscar fought Tito, Shane, Vargas
    Leonard fought Duran, hearns Benitez
    Ali fought Frazier, foreman, norton

    Floyd hasn't done that

Floydie had his chance at cotto at 147. Oh wait he retired. "I'm gonna retire from boxing. Boxings not gonna retire me."

                He fought henry bruseles instead.

A couple of more fights and floydie moved up weight.

Mayweather's jab is and always been quicker and more accurate than De la Hoya's. Mayweather is the most accurate puncher in the sport. De la Hoya has never been that.
De la hoya knocked guys sensless with his left hook, like paez, jimmy bredahl, ruelas, vargas, mayorga, castillejo amongst others... floyds left hook was never really a factor at 147 with exeptions of jmm and hatton....though floyd knocked down corrales 5x oscar was laying dudes out with his left hooks...apples to apples de la hoya had a better left hook imo. And was a better finisher as well!

                    • Who knows what would have happened. What I do know is that Floyd wanted to fight Oscar at that time and Oscar wasn't interested. So why even talk about it.
