Same thing could be said about Cotto if you're tryng down play their accomplishments. Who has Cotto beat? He lost all the big fights. Martinez was shot...yada yada yada. There are both a sides and will have to compromise accordingly.

Cotto is a boss for sure but what real leverage does he have over Canelo? Sure, he is a big name but Cotto is near the end of his career and his main focus is beefing up his retirement nest egg with mega PPV fights.

Canelo, on the other hand, is still in the mindset of proving that he will fight anyone, for legacy. He is going to make plenty of money per fight, regardless of who he fights, for his expectations at this point in his career.

Cotto only has one or two fights available to him right now that will pay him the amount of money he is looking for. Because of this, Canelo may actually hold quite a bit of leverage over him, much more than one would initially think.

WTF does this thread even mean if you're just a fan? Tell me how it's going to affect my life in the grand scheme of things? Only reason why you're concerned about this is because the love of your life TBE is fighting on that date.

and if cotto doesnt accept canelos offer again then there is chavez jr or pacquiao...
Cotto did not fight Margo in may..they fought in June and December

I could care less on the date, but this fight should be in NY. Canelo has had every advantage his entire career if he wants that MW title he needs to take it from the champion in his own backyard. If Canelo was the main draw, against GGG for example then he would obviously get it in his backyard but against Cotto the fight should be in NY. This would be a passing of the torch fight, like Cotto/Mosley was in a sense, and Canelo should prove himself on the road.

The gate would be bigger in Vegas though I'm sure and the buyrate won't be affected wherever its held so it may happen there, who knows? Cotto may still end up fighting Mayweather, it may be the only opponent that Showtime will agree to except for Manny in order to recoup some of those losses and we already know Cotto will take less money for legacy as he did with Martinez. Still, he might make more money facing Floyd than Canelo in the first place and it'll be an easy decision. I just want to see Floyd/Cotto Cotto/Canelo and I could care less what the date and location is.

And who is Canelo going to fight making more money than Cotto? It's an irrelevant topic, both are the highest payday for each other aside from maybe Mayweather and only Cotto has a realistic shot in a rematch.

My point is that it is pretty much ALL about money for Cotto at this stage, not so for Canelo. Canelo can fight Kirkland for 1.75 - 2.0 mill and be happy with it. Cotto isn't stepping in the ring anymore for that amount of money.

I just realized the location will probably be one of the roadblocks

Location, split, PPV revenue, weight, therefore barrier upon barrier and Cotto wont make this easy, I foresee a 152-153 catch weight that Cotto will ask for .....................

                    Canelo has himself to blame........

Tough one to answer. Will Cotto be cool with fighting in a venue packed with Mexicans rooting for Canelo? The answer to that is HELL NO.

I wouldn't be surprised if this fight falls apart in the negotiation table. People say Cotto is a diva, but if Cotto is a diva, then what is Canelo? Wanting to take Mayweather's dates? They are both divas.
