If tyson was a defensive genius then what do you call Floyd Patterson? Tyson was a gift to the boxing world though and his early peek a boo style was unstoppable. Early Tyson was an unstoppable force and stylistically a hard fight for an heavyweight. If any doubts are to be said on how he would fare agaisnt other AtG's it would have to be him getting exposed by douglas and holyfield. Tyson didnt fight well backing up, whether or not an early tyson would have fared any different with the tutelage of kevin rooney we'll never know.

He wasn't a genius, but he was sound at that bobbing and weaving.

His defense got significantly worse at the fight went on. He got hit more and more easily as the fight progressed into the 5th and onward.

He was only very sharp with it for the first few rounds.

Still, he had good head movement all the way through a fight just not as good as people make out.

You'd never see this kind of movement from him and elusiveness late in a fight.

Yea look at the second Ruddock fight. Eventually he seemed to abandon all his defense and those guys just started throwing bombs at each other. Tyson was a very good all around fighter. No defensive genius tho.

I'd take 1986 Mike Tyson to beat any HW in history.

How do you post a .GIF, and put one in your sig? As you can see, I failed.

Also, that was a beautiful piece of work from Tyson.

Couldn't agree more Larry. His defense Is very underrated. A prime Mike Tyson was a machine and for a brief time probably from 1986-1988 he would have given any heavyweight In the history of the sport fits.

.....and when he stopped jabbing, Tyson was done.

His jab was damn good and helped set up his deadly arsenal of punches.
