  • Comments Thread For: Manager: Mickey Bey Will Have To Face Denis Shafikov

Denis Shafikov (34-1-1, 19KOs) is focused on landing a mandatory shot at IBF lightweight champion Mickey Bey (21-1-1, 10KOs). Shafikov will have a stay-busy fight in December, according to the boxer's manager Oleg Bogdanov. Bey captured the title last month with a controversial twelve round split decision over longtime champion Miguel Vazquez of Mexico. Vazquez claims to have a rematch clause, but Shafikov's manager says a purse bid for their mandatory shot is looming for January 14th.

And because he's a Mayweather guy, Haymon won't care. In fact it's the only reason he signed Vazquez to begin with.

Sad thing is it genuinely wouldn't surprise me after the Vazquez farce. OTOH Shafikov probably isn't quite as easy to score against as Titere, and I can see him putting some hurt on Bey.

On a level playing field I favour Shafikov, but I'll be quite surprised if this fight happens - Denis isn't a huge puncher but he's dangerous enough that the decision might not be left in the hands of the judges.

IMO, it'll be a tough fight for Bey.... after the last fight, not looking forward for going to 12

Miguel Vasquez clowned Shafikov when they fought.

Titere is more deserving of getting a title shot even if doesn't have a rematch clause with Bey.

Bey gets clowned and brutally stopped if this fight happens. I don't see him making it to the final bell. However, I'm sure this fight won't get made. Haymon will make sure Mickey Bey cements his legacy as the biggest paper champ of all time. Basing it off the Lamont Peterson blueprint, of course.

Also, people underestimate Shafikov because of the Vazquez loss so he will probably be considered the underdog in this fight just like in his last fight because people don't want to give Vazquez any credit. I remember laughing when I heard the odds during the Shafikov-Nugaev fight. I thought to myself "Shafikov is going to get an attempted murder charge after this fight".

Mickey Bey is not signed with Al Haymon, but Miguel Vasquez is. How come Haymon didnt influence the Vasquez-Bey result?

Dont let your hate for a fighter degrade your intelligence. Shafikov is not awkward like Vasquez. Wide UD for Bey.
