I have to agree, none of the black guys I know call themselves African-American they call themselves black. If I hear a black guy call himself African-American just in a conversation on the street I would bet he was racist. Only the media labels people in such a dumb **** way, my parents were born in Cuba and Puerto Rico. I was born in the US and you know what, I'm American not latino-american or some ****ing label. Some guy whose great, great, great, great grandmother was a slave brought from Africa doesn't make you African.
I didn't see the full convo but I've never understood the label 'African-American'. Why is there no label European-American? It would have some logic then. It seems like if you're white you're American but if your black you're African-American.
U know whats worse? I'm black and from the UK and some dumb muther****er referred to me as African American!

I think many white people would like to be called "European-American" but good luck getting anyone to call them that. European ancestry isn't exactly something you're allowed to celebrate in the US.
The "African-American" thing is supposed to be formal and respectful (casually we just say black or white) but people still find a way to cry about it.

I refer to you as crybaby personally.
Crybaby? Its just my point of view. Nothing more, nothing less.
OK well maybe it's just miscommunication. "African-American" is a very ass-kissy/politically correct term like "People of Color" (cringe).
It is not derogatory at all. In fact the main users are ultra-left wing white guys trying to be "down with African-Americans" (cringe) and are worried just calling them American by itself or black by itself would get them beat up.
I've only seen white nationalist websites ask to be called "European-American".

True. Its always the ultra ******* folk who are often most offended, yet they are usually the least likely to be target of any kind of prejudice.
Is it ok for a Hispanic or a white guy to say that they will never lose to a black man??? Wouldn't that be offensive to African Americans???
No but most people from an early age have been programmed thru media and school to sympathize with blacks because of slavery even though the black people of today we're never ******. But you can say things like typical Mexican style with no skill and it's ok. Or even insult Asians and its nothing, look at Devon Alexander lol
