Comments Thread For: Willie Nelson: Vanes is Nothing Special, I Won The Fight!

Foxwoods, CT - In an exciting and action fight, junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan won a hard-fought 10 round unanimous decision over Willie Nelson.

Martirosyan was dedicating his fight against Nelson to the memory of Dan Goossen, who passed away earlier in the week due to liver cancer. Martirosyan had fought once under the Goossen Tutor Promotions banner, a win over Mario Lozano on March 21.

Nelson entered the bout against Martirosyan having won seven bouts in a row. He was coming off a 10 round unanimous decision win over Luis Grajeda on August 8.

Better fight than I expected. The right man won imo but it was close.

Probably the best and most consistent performance I've seen from Martirosyan. He clearly beat Nelson by at least 3 rounds.

Although I agree, Vanes isn't anything spectacular. He's got some good power and seems to have a damn good chin. He got cracked with some hard shots and Willie looked like he was in a weight class above him in there. But skill-wise, meh..

I will say this much, since the announcers never acknowldeged it. Willie Nelson's power jab was stopping Vanes in his tracks all night and he was using it magnificently. I feel Vanes eeked out the win but Nelson was definitely in the fight and wasnt out classed by any means. That jab is a thing of beauty tho. See Vanes' face post fight.

I was pulling for Willie but I also had vanes winning by three rounds. Willie puts in good work but he buckles on every hard shot to the head. Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch. This was by far the best fight on the card

This was a good fight, but Nelson clearly lost it.

Nelson lost the fight. I was never really high on him but he fought well last night. I can see him winning if they ever fought again. Btw, he didn't listed to a word his corner was telling him.

Black fighters are soooo sour when they lose a fight. Nelson, Dawson, Gary Russell Jr, Broner, Anthony Dirrell in his draw w/ Bika. Bunch of classless rejects.
