Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto Remains Mum on His Future

The boxing industry continues to speculate over the possibility of a showdown between World middleweight king Miguel Cotto and former 154 lb. titlist Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The first step was taken by Alvarez, as he gave promoter Golden Boy Promotions the marching orders to take his star status back to HBO, where he returns for a December 6 headliner in Houston, Texas.

Alvarez’ likely opponent will be Joshua Clottey, with an announcement expected to come sometime in the next few days.

He earned that break and is probably waiting to see if he gets an offer from Floyd to get the max money possible from HBO or Showtime PPV.

      Keep getting them checks Cotto

Does anyone know if he is actually under contract with Top Rank or is he working with them on a fight by fight basis and can entertain any other offers?

He has a lot of options
Floyd @ 154 for both the 154lb and 160lb titles at the same time
      Canelo @ 154lb or 160lb
Chavez Jr @ a catch weight

I also believe that he's waiting for a chance or to hear from Floyd. lf this fight does not realize then he'll fight Canelo in May. I think FMJr. fight makes him more money and Canelo is always going to be there for him.

Floyd vs Cotto can appeal to the casual fans. Canelo does not even speak english so how can he bring in new non Mexican fans to buy that fight. Cotto would have to carry that promotion. The build up to Floyd vs Cotto would be huge because there would be so many stories you could talk about.

          1. Floyd vs Cotto (What can Cotto do differently? What can Roach add? Will weight be a factor this time?)
          2. Can Floyd get a title in a 6th weight class making him the only other fight beside Henry Armstrong to hold 3 different titles from 3 weight classes at the same time?
          3. Floyd Sr. vs Roach (they can give these 2 their own episode of All Access)
          4. Roach vs Ariza lol
          5. The changes in Floyds camp (who is in and who is out?)

They have the potential to make the biggest card of the year. If I'm Espinoza I would push hard to make this fight happen next. For the co feature he will have many options:

          1. Let Khan fight Brook @ Wembly (It can open the card because of the time difference) Floyd could get some UK PPV money, but that fight probably needs it's own date.
          2. Floyd could vacate the WBA title and let Thurman fight Miadana as the co feature. Or he can add another Mexican fighter to the card (Marquez and give him a shot at making history)
          3. Chavez Jr. (I have been saying this for a while but have never really been sure about his contract situation). Give him a tune up fight on the under card and set him up for his own PPV date against Froch later in the year (I don't think he should jump right into that fight after such a long layoff).

He should let Oscar make Garcia and Pac fight since he wants to work with Top Rank all of a sudden, and the winner can face Floyd if he wins, Cotto can face Canelo if he wins (even if he lost it would still be a big fight).

Waiting on Floyd, not sure what the contractual obligations are with Cotto and TR but last I knew he was only signed for promoting his fights, not under an actual actual contract with TR, someone can let me know if I'm wrong. Either way, last time they fought the contract was signed in less than 10 days after Cotto left TR and became a Free Agent.

Cotto undoubtedly makes more dough against Floyd than Cinammon, Cinammon and ODLH will want a good fair share of the money that fight generates, and Cotto will laugh and think they are out their mind because Cinammon is really a nobody right now in the PPV game.

Let's have Floyd vs Cotto with all 3 weight class belts on the line lmfao

Can't really see a Cotto/Mayweather rematch. The fight was not close with scores of 117-111 on two cards and 118-110 on the third card.

The only fight left for Floyd Is Manny Pacquiao. That fight will not happen for two reasons.

                1. Floyd will not fight Manny
                2. Algeria has a very good chance of pulling off the upset next month.
