What's speculation that Canelo is one of the most popular boxers in the game. He may no be the star Oscar, Floyd, or Manny was. But he's still the next face of boxing. Those guys are on their last leg. Things are changing.

None of that is speculation. That's the point of this thread. That the headline. All this other back and forth is meaningless.

He has faced Trout, Lara, Angulo, and Mayweather. He completely dominated El Perro Angulo. Hes about to face Clottey (which is a keep busy fight) and will most likely face Cotto next year. Win or lose that fight, he is still very young (24) and there are still alot of worthy challenges to come. so tell me, what does Alvarez have to do to gain your so admired approval?

News flash, it's already Canelo - regardless of what you guys say, or what anyone says. Myself included.
I like Canelo and supported him~ and still think he is a pretty good boxer in terms of his boxing skills.

You have to win in boxing and win impressively to be THE next big thing in boxing, I don't deny Canelo is a star but the path from the number clear 3 maybe number 4 to the top is not usually a smooth one and the guys who managed to pull it off smoothly there was no doubt about their boxing games.

Canelo is going to do exactly what at 160? He isn't making 154 any more so he isn't even in a real weight class currently. Is he going to be the greatest all time Caneloweight (155 on Tuesday when fighting someone bigger but 158 on Thursday when fighting someone smaller)? Asking those question about his future is being real, and based on what Canelo previously done what makes you think anything will change.

He will be the same guy forever unless forced to change and judging by how he is acting I don't think anyone is telling Canelo anything any time soon, so hard to see where real improvement will come from.

According to PPV numbers and revenue, those EBT card totin' brothaz that you claim support Floyd are willing to shell out $75 to watch him fight. But those taco eat'n muf.uckaz that support Nelo will show up at a free event, but won't pay to see him fight.

He doesn't have that elite level talent to be the face of boxing. But he sure will represent the sport better than Mayweather ever has. Floyd was never a good fit for that role, all he has done is create a toxic atmosphere between fans, promoters, networks.....seeing him talk complete bullshi*t with that female reporter on ESPN was humiliating for all boxing fans.

I'm not asking for the face of boxing to be a role model or a goody-two toes. But it sure will be nice when that piece of **** Mayweather is no longer our primary representative. At least someone like Tyson has some soul and depth to him than that man-child Floyd.

I'm not upset. I like Canelo. But he's not a good fighter. And IMO there needs to be some substance to go along with the star qualties. Your opinion actually makes no sense. Why would Floyd's fans be threatened by Canelo? Last May's result shows that Nelo is no threat to Floyd in the ring. And his mediocre PPV bumbers show that he's not a threat at the box office.

Exactly. You'll need to sell talent at some point.

I agree that Canelo does NOT have the skills Mayweather does and probably never will. But what makes him the front runner is that he doesnt shy away from a challenge and he is still very young. Im sure alot of boxers would kill to be in the position Canelo is in right now. Im sure Mayweather himself would have wanted to be in the same spot Canelo is in right now.

LOL@ glorified sparring matches being called FIGHTS. We already knew Floyd was a good points scorer. You're turn.
Why would Floyd have needed to exchange with Canelo? He's too smart to do that.
