Comments Thread For: Canelo Ready To Replace Mayweather as Boxing's Face

One year ago, over 2 million Americans shelled out $80 to witness Canelo do just what the thread title says. Except he was soundly beaten and looked out of his league. Most haven't returned to pay to watch him again. Canelo-Cotto probably does 500-600k in PPV and beating Cotto in impressive and exciting fashion could turn Canelo into boxing's next biggest star. I don't know if he can do it but I'm dying to find out.

That requires winning Canelo and not just winning beating top guys impressively. Now you can say he has fought top guys and even won against a couple but where they very impressive performances?
Boxing when it comes to being a huge star is about looking impressive most of all, if you don't look the part no matter who you beat people will not believe.

So the only thing they will be doing is split the fans and take PPV Buys away from each other and this is another reason why I don't see them going head to head
Camilla has plenty of time to build big numbers, Floyd never drew near what Canelo is drawing at his age. He also packed the Alamodome with 40,000 people not bad for someone that young in his career.
They will split fans, but that will not affect Canelo as much he is just starting his young career. It will affect Mayweather more because he is the one that likes to brag about drawing.
I think it will happen because canelo/Delahoya want The Mexican holiday dates back, and would only have to compete with Floyd for two more fights. Those dates were originally reserved for Oscar before he retired, and Floyd took them over when he left .
Until now we have had no other option, but if you give Hispanic the option they will pick Canelo.
I don't know why you care anyway, because in the end the fans win if this happens. Puts pressure on both fighters to continually make the fights we want to see. If we're shelling out big money for these PPV's, we should least get to see what we want, and not continually settle for mediocre fights.
Every boxing fan hope this happens, and not care how it affects the fighters. There getting rich off us not the other way around. It's the least we could get out of it.
It's not a Canelo/Floyd thing for me it's how can the fans win.

You obviously didn't see what happened when the De La Hoyas, Trinidad's, Quartey, Mosleys all fought each other. That was a very good era and they were all in their prime. The majority of all those fights were extremely close.
Some of y'all act like you've never seen this before. Canelo /Lara could fight 10 times and it would always be very close.
Just like almost all Pacquiao/Marquez fights.
When you put two top biters against each other, majority of the time you're going to get a close fight .
Canelo is still young in his career, and has a long way to go. Stop trying to define his legacy before it has even started.
At least he has the balls to take on the toughrisky fights no matter what, unlike a lot of fighters that like the Dodge each other and take the path of least resistance.

Hard for canelo to replace floyd especially when floyd dominated him...
But if canelo does keep winning, he will take the mantle from floyd and manny once they retire

Canelo isn't the future of anything. He's another "star" that boxing is trying to shove down our throats that can't fight worth ****. He's already a lost and arguably two gift decisions into what has been a mediocre career so far.

Bunch of haters in here. Canelo is the next biggest thing, like it or not - you WILL deal with IT.
When one of your ***** ass idols comes to FIGHT, holla at me so we can discuss how he got SPARKED OUT. Period.
