I'm saying in general if someone has bigoted views on Mexicans, they're going to hold them for Mexican-Americans too. It doesn't magically change because of the American tag.

People who have crossed the border and still claim Mexico is more a sense of honoring your culture and not forgetting your past. I don't understand how someone can speak on the subject when they have no experience on it. You still have emotional ties to your homeland even though you know there is no future there.

It's almost the equivalent of leaving a small town in order to pursue your dreams in the big city. You still love your hometown but you know there's no future there to accomplish your goals. You obviously still have emotional ties to your hometown and will speak proudly of it wherever you go.

No matter where you are from, when you step foot on foreign soil, you will always look back and admire the best qualities of your Motherland. (No disrespect) Look at Cuban fighters. They might hate the system in their Motherland but they honour and respect many aspects of their home country. They wear the Cuban flag to bring glory to their land, not their dictator. They miss the food and natural sites but it doesn't mean they are going back to Cuba anytime soon. When one steps into the US you shouldn't expect them to automatically erase their past and memories. That will eventually happen later on down the road after many generations but for the first few, their heritage and admiration for their original Motherland will always be alive and well.

I'm not Mexican but I do agree that they for the most part are keeping the sport running. I also do agree that the US owns the top spot right now in the sport. I just think this topic could be debated without the bigoted attacks.

That's like saying that the future of Mexican boxing rests on Canelo and Chavez Jr's shoulders. I assume you're talking from a financial perspective, but there's several boxers from both sides that have flourishing careers.

At the top it's clearly US, I still think that overall Mexico has more quality fighters even though many of them fight in lower weights which are easily ignored.

It seems every US vs. Mexico thread turns into a debate about whether Mexican-Americans are actually American. I am an immigrant myself and I do root mainly for American fighters, but I generally have a hard time rooting for Mexican-American fighters because it does not seem to me that they want to be associated with America or be labeled American. This does not apply to all Mexican-American fighters, but it does apply to the majority.

A moment that I remember very well in my short time as a boxing fan was Rios-Alvarado I. Alvarado comes out with a Mexican-American flag, one side Mexico, the other side USA. I personally found it to be a disgusting desecration. After Alvarado gets stopped, the doctor jumps in the ring and is asking Alvarado if he is OK, but he is speaking to Alvarado in Spanish. Alvarado looks dumbfounded as he stares into the doctors eyes and says something like, "No, no, English only". I just found that to be really funny.
