No he quit because he kept breaking his hands and he just didn't want to do that anymore. Naz was gracious in defeat, he just didn't want the agro of having to prep for a fight anymore. He saved up millions of pounds and built a comfortable life for himself and his family.

In terms of this thread and article, there is no doubt in my mind that he was/is a HOF worthy fighter. How he isn't there yet is ridiculous when guys like McGuigan and Gatti are. For anyone unbiased making a list of the best fighters of the 90s, Naz would be right up there.

    Period.

I don't get the Arturo Gatti example. It should be pretty understandable why he's in the HOF.

        Legend.

The excitement and entertainment he brought to the sport alone should be more than enough for him to get into the hall of fame, without even beginning on the titles he won.

Fondly remembered, and i pity the sad miserable pricks who would rather hate on the excitement he brought to the sport than enjoy it, but hey ho i supposed if these sad bastards weren't around then Boxing wouldn't be the sport it is.

Yeah, really. People talk about "entertainment" and "boring" matches this and that...well here was a guy who put up entertaining matches almost every time he fought. It should be pretty obvious to any real boxing fan why Gatti is in the HOF.

Why? Because him and another C level fighter (Micky Ward) were in 3 great fights? Not to be disrespectful but including Gatti in the HOF really downgrads the criteria for getting in, in terms of accomplishments inside the ring.

he has no wins vs any great fighter.

how can you get into the hall of fame if your best win is a past prime kevin kelley?

american media puts wayyyyyyyyyy too much stock in athlete's flash/bravado.

judgge him on who he beat and when he beat them.

hamed does not belong. rightfully so.

because he died a tragic death?

that's the only thing i can come up with. certainly his resume does not belong. just because you got into a great trilogy vs a bum journeyman club fighters does not equal hall of fame induction.

just because some boxers got in who werent worthy, doesnt mean we let everybody in who isnt worthy because of some who got in.

                    that would incredibly ******.

Seeing how entertaining matches are so important to boxing, making them as much as he did IS an accomplishment.

Wow! Inducting a guy who almost consistently put up great, entertaining boxing matches for the fans makes this the "Clowns of Fame"?

Remember this the next time you ever say anything about a "boring" fight.

You make it seem like the trilogy was all he had going for him. Gatti was always known for putting up entertaining matches even before he fought Mickey Ward. He brought a lot of excitement to the sport, which is very important not only to the fans who watch it (otherwise it wouldn't be "boring fighter" this and that) but also the business itself. It'd be ****** if he WASN'T in the HOF.
