    Question regarding purse bids

My understanding is they are "blind bids" meaning each party submits an amount of money, without knowing who and how much the other party or parties have bid. Is that correct?

If so, I would imagine if the Wilder fight goes to a purse bid tomorrow, the mere thought of Roc Nation bidding will scare each side to bid a huge amount of cash. How funny would it be if Roc Nation doesn't even bid and say, Golden Boy ends up bidding like $3.5m lol

    Happened before with Loma/Russell.

I would laugh so hard if Roc Nation outbid everyone again and Haymon wanted to pull Wilder out because of it.

Thankfully, Wilder doesn't seem the kind of guy to accept that, and Haymon's only chance at landing Wilder a belt is against Stiverne. He sure isn't beating Wlad.

They are blind bids. Otherwise you would never see such ridiculous bids like the Jay Z bid or the Klitschko-Povetkin one.

If that happens and Wilder pulls out, it would without a doubt prove Al Haymon is horrible for boxing (to the few left that don't already know it).

This purse bids subject is also confusing to me. I don't dig deep into this sport's intricacies. Roc Nation bidding on fights with fighters they don't have any rights to just doesn't make sense.

That's the beauty of purse bids. A fight is ordered by a sanctioning body. If the two sides can't reach a deal, the sanctioning body orders a purse bid. Anyone can bid money.

Usually it doesn't happen often since the third party has no interest or investment in the fighters since they don't promote them. However it makes a lot of sense for a company like Roc Nation who want to enter boxing with pretty good fights, rather than starting from the bottom and working their way up. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more frequently tbh.

al haymon will do away with purse bids once he takes over boxing. his fighters shouldn't have to be forced to fight good fighters. this is an outrage.

The fighters' promoters still get paid if another promoter wins the bid. So if Roc Nation were to bid let's something crazy like, let's say $4.5m, for Stiverne-Wilder, King and GB(if Deontay Wilder is contracted) will still get a piece too.

And in regards to the Lomachenko-Russell bids, of course the purse bids are blind, but if you go back look at the number Golden Boy bid juxtaposed to what Top Rank bid, there was no way that was an arbitrary number. That reeked of funny business.
