I've been watching boxing at the ongoing Asian Games...believe me, amateur boxing is way more fun to watch without the headgear. I could never get my self to watch amateurs fight with head gear about a year and a half back when they used it...

The minimum weight of a glove used in amateurs is 10oz with a lot of the compacted padding in the front of the knuckles...these guys should learn how to protect themselves from head butts also instead of trying to score with every punch.

Cuts is what these guys need to worry about...officials are VERY VERY cautious when it comes to fighters KOing each other...they wont let it go that far...it's like you're on wobbly legs? That's it fight is over you lose...

That's not an acceptable argument. That would be like saying foot ball players need to go back to leather helmets, and get rid of fair catches cause **** happens anyway.

Just because a sport has heavy contact, doesn't mean we do not have a responsibility to make it safe as possible.

Also a lot of children, who will never go pro, box in the amateurs. Should we risk their mental health, and scholastic performance to make it more entertaining?

amateurs don't get paid, so the risk should be a little lower. *Steps off soapbox lol

Man, having boxed in the ams for years, I appreciated the head gear. I'm not saying this simply for protection but also because the vast majority of amateurs never turn pro, we do it cos we like it and I always intended to go to university and study. Imagine all the scarring, broken noses etc which would be the result of no head gear for amateurs who never turn pro. Trust me, that would affect their personal and professional future.

No, boxing being made as safe as possible would be to force everyone to wear Winning brand 15oz as well as headgear

Boxing isn't about making it safe for the fighter ffs. It's a ****ing fight. Even the gloves aren't meant for the opponents safety, they're meant to protect the fighters hands

If you don't want to get hurt in BOXING, then don't ****ing box

This isn't the NFL where contact is secondary and safety should be a main concern

Making it safe for the fighter is the trainers responsibility by teaching proper defense
