Comments Thread For: J. Mayweather: Alexander, In Rhythm, Beats Thurman Easy

Trainer Jeff Mayweather discussed the potential welterweight fight between top contenders Keith Thurman (23-0, 21KOs) and Devon Alexander (26-2, 14KOs). There have been rumors that a Thurman-Alexander fight is being considered for the fall. Both boxers are handled by Golden Boy Promotions and managed by Al Haymon.

Jeff sees Alexander as the overall better fighter and predicts him to win, rather easily, if he sticks to boxing. Alexander seems to do his very best against aggressive fighters who try to take his head off - like Juan Urango, Marcos Maidana and Jesus Soto Karass.

Alexander doesn't beat anyone except mediocrity easily. Even then he struggles sometimes.

Alexander is easily one of the top 3 WW on pure skill alone. He has trouble with awkward wild fighters though. At his best he can beat just about any WW outside of Floyd. He would torch Thurman and I would love to see that fight.

He's absolutely right, but Thurman is not just a puncher, he has decent boxing skills as well. I don't like this match up much, think it'd be a boring fight because alexander will stay away and use his legs. We've already seen Thurman could out slug a slugger. If he could beat beat alexander, then we'll know for sure he's the real deal.
