Great argument... that's exactly how I feel about it. These guys drain themselves to make weight, and weight gain before the fight is inevitable. Unfortunately, Gamache should've retired earlier in his career, and this wouldn't have even happened. Don't get me wrong, some guys, like George Foreman and Bernard Hopkins, have been effective approaching 40, and even over 40. However, too many guys manage their money poorly, and find themselves still fighting well past their primes. This is what happened to Gamache. I feel sorry for him, but the blame lies more on himself and his handlers than on Gatti. This won't hold up in court, and like I previously mentioned, it sounds like Gamache didn't manage his money well, and has doctor's bills piling up. This happens far too often... look at Mike Tyson... this is a sad situation, but Arturo Gatti is a true sportsman, and this has to hit him pretty hard. Many fighters have made a good living in the ring, and spent all their money, and it's unfortunate that many of them suffer severe permanent damage, and have nothing to fall back on.
Yeah, the taxes alone on each purse can kill 'em. If they dont pay them at the time of the fight and let them build up..trouble!
unless there was some intentional weight cheating by gatti or his team that can be proven, gamache needs to shut up and take the loss like a man, dont be a *****. however, for any boxer to do something like this says to me that they really believe they were screwed somehow.
gatti is accountable for cheating so he is involved and should be sued along with everyone else involved in the cover up
it was a scandal and they should all pay
yes including gatti
gatti knowingly cheated so he shouldve been fined at the very least
gamaches trainer tried to speak up but was told to shut up and quit trying to cause a scene
gamache and his trainer were nowhere near world class obviously so they were both fish out of water
had gatti been fighting a big name fighter something wouldve been done about it
gatti is the ***** for fighting a journeyman light welterweight when gatti came in at middleweight
gamache aint suing cause hes mad he lost damn dont be ****** he went into the fight knowing hed lose
thats what was expected
people dont see the point
this is a boxing corruption issue not just a gatti issue
a fighter was allowed to come in at 160 to fight a guy at 140 because the 160 guy was too irresponsible to make weight
he was given special treatment and another fighter was put at risk because of it
people were complaining about castillo wrecking corrales and blaming it on castillo coming in over weight
that was for two world class fighters
and the weight wasnt as much
this gatti thing gatti weighed in 3 classes above gamache at the frigging weight in so no telling what the weight difference was by the time of the actual fight
I never even heard of this fight, but it sounds like some bull**** to me. They signed the contract for 140, I'm sure Gatti cheated. They should pay up.
