timothy bradley a slick undefeated prime fighter was a huge cherry pick? fighting juan manuel marquez 4 times is a cherry pick?

truth is canelo is too big for pac. pac comes in at 148-150 lbs on fight night while canelo comes in over 170+ lbs. canelo should be fighting at middleweight right now and not picking on small past prime fighters like pacquiao.

I'm not just talking about Manny, Freddie does it with a lot of his fighters.

The 3rd fight with JMM was actually a cherry pick, it just backfired. He's on camera saying he won't accept a Mosley fight at 147 because Shane was too risky...until Shane looked shot, of course. An old Martinez with bad knees, an old weight drained Oscar.....Freddie knows exactly what he is doing.

Bradley was a good opponent as have many others been; Rios, Algieri, Rodriguez...more Freddie picks.

I guess they think Pac is done as a top fighter for them to feed him to Canelo like that. Canelo just needs that 1 big name on his resume to take him to the next level as a PPV star. Beating Pac or Cotto can do this for him, and those are the only fights I see HBO going for next year.

If they are competitive there will definitely be rematches.

freddie picked an old weight drained oscar? didn't oscar challenge manny at welterweight?

also pac fought cotto in his second fight at welterweight (late 2009) which is still really good considering cotto was younger, prime (or not too far from it), #2 ranked welterweight, WBO champ, and top ten p4p. hardly a cherry pick at all.

and a guy you had two previous tough fights with will never be a cherry pick and that was proven in the 3rd fight. plus marquez hooked up with heredia who took him to the next level in terms of conditioning.

also rios was an obvious tune up fight after pac got KO'ed cold and was coming off a year long absence (longest in his career).

also rodriguez was a tune up fight for cotto after two straight losses. cotto vs martinez was a 50/50 fight going into it since cotto was by far the smaller guy. also martinez said after the fight that his knee wasn't the problem. he got caught with a very clean left hook (same left hook that chavez jr caught him with in the 12th). it was hardly a cherry pick.

we can talk about martinez had a bad knee, but cotto is far past his prime and fighting way above his best weight class (welterweight).

I never mentioned the Pac/Cotto fight...

I didn't like the catch weight which was again Freddie's work, but it was a legit fight. As was Bradley and many others.

However, they brought JMM up in weight the 3rd time expecting an easier fight and it backfired....the 4th fight wasn't a cherry pick from Freddie as a result of the 3rd. Oscar was a walking skeleton, Freddie said he would be in advance which is why he took it. The Mosley situation needs no description, it speaks for itself.

As for Cotto/Martinez, Freddie knew what he was doing. Sergio was nearing 40, looked like complete **** in his previous fight, couldn't spar because of knee problems and it all showed, he was a shell of himself. Martinez wanted the fight for years and it didn't happen until his body was shot...Freddie made that fight in a heartbeat when he saw how Martinez looked.

Not blaming Pac or Miguel, it's what Freddie does.

i know you didn't but i'm saying that fighting cotto over mosley isn't really a cherry pick considering cotto was still a very dangerous opponent and highly ranked. plus it was only pac's second fight at welterweight.

and again fighting a guy who gave you two very tough fights isn't a cherry pick. everyone thought it was because of how bad marquez looked against floyd. but only reason he looked bad is because 1) styles make fights and 2) it was his first fight at welterweight and he was poorly conditioned. but going into the 3rd fight everyone knew he hired a steroid scientist to give him the extra boost and training.

also again oscar challenged pac when pac just had 1 fight at lightweight. but of course they would jump at the opportunity to fight oscar because 1) it was a big payday 2) it was a huge opportunity and a high profile fight. if you want to blame someone for that whole situation it's oscar.

yah martinez didn't look the best against his last opponent but he took the necessary time off to heal and he admitted after the fight that the problem wasn't the knee. he was just caught with a clean left hook which started it all (same left hook that chavez jr caught him with in the 12th of their fight).

this knee excuse is just to discredit cotto's win. cotto himself is far past his prime, fighting way above his best weightclass, and only had one meh tune up win after two straight losses.

I know I sometimes disagree with you hammer but you are **** on the money here. Canelo should be calling out middleweights not welterweights. Pac is way too light and there's no fair catchweight that can be made.

Its not like he demanded to unify at a catchweight, and the defended sww belt at 147, like that feeble joke of a sww champ, too small for his 5th division

It most certainly was a cherry pick. They picked the fighter that was perceived as much less of a risk. There are lots of videos of Roach talking about Cotto b4 and after the right was made. Roach is almost salivating over fighting Cotto while saying "he isn't the same fighter". He knew that Cotto had lost his confidence after Margarito and Cotto confirmed it after the 2nd Margartio fight. When Shane was dangerous, they wanted nothing to do with him. When Cotto was vulnerable, they wanted him. When they felt that Cotto wasn't vulnerable, they wanted nothing to do with him either. That is the epitome of a cherry pick.
